This job requires so much emotional energy and patience that never gets rewarded. I feel like I'm getting my soul sucked out sometimes. I'm absolutely exhausted today (start of the new semester, bad weather, depression... not really feeling great all around) and I'm DREADING going to work in an hour. I'm a poor college student so obviously I'll get dressed and go here shortly but I dont know if the toll is worth it anymore. Minimum wage and going down to 16.5 hours from 24 for a job that drains me of my joy? Getting scheduled 5.75 hours constantly so I have only 10 minutes to rest, and only if we aren't busy because we are always running 2-3 parts?
I'm applying elsewhere.
UPDATE: A guy came in earlier and ordered 6 medicine balls. SIX. The gods are truly testing me smh

I struggle everyday that I work, I think it’s time to job hunt and find something else. I feel like with the job market we should be able to find something we love that doesn’t hurt our mental health.

I was gonna write a rant about late capitalism and any job doing what you love will be ruined by the requirements that make it work and turn it into something you especially hate because you used to love it but I'm too exhausted from work and this whole thread doesn't seem to need the dourness laid on.

God yesterday and today have been those types of days. They put me on register for my entire shift every single shift. There’s only so many things I can do to keep myself busy when there’s no customers in the cafe. I get so drained by the third hour that my customer service is lacking and I just can’t pretend to care anymore. My store always keeps the same people on bar, drive thru, and register and I’m getting so tired of it. I’ve been working at Starbucks for almost 4 months now and I know that I am competent on bar. I am capable of doing drive thru. I am capable of doing all parts. Yet because peak gets so hectic we are all stuck in the same spot for 6-7 hours. How is anyone supposed to get practice in anything else when it’s the same old thing everyday? It’s so draining and I haven’t figured out how to cope with it the past couple days it’s made me cry at work.

I really wish I had great advice here. Starbucks was my final option after not being able to find a job for roughly five years after college and finally being too old to stay on my parent's health care plan. It's a draining hellscape that will weigh on me my entire life, so same boat more or less.
Also, talk to someone about not getting a lunch for a 5.75 hr shift. From experience taking a 15 min short shift by skipping lunch, 5 hrs is where you should be getting a lunch.

Well I've just graduated college but for the last 2 years I've been working at a Target Starbucks. Starting pay is $13.50/hr maybe more with your experience. Anyhow I've really enjoyed it and at my store we love it when someone already has experience because the training here is awful.

So there is a difference in target Starbucks vs store Starbucks?
qctheqc1 points3y ago
Yes "Tarbucks" is owned by Target and paid by Target and what they call a licensed store.

OK so they don’t get as many benefits? Also license means that the Starbucks is inside another business right? And corporate is a store on its own?

They get Target benefits because they are Target employees. I'm not sure how they compare with Starbucks benefits.
