how do i put in my two weeks like i mean it. (self.starbucksbaristas)

my store has had a horrible homeless problem. there have been countless “isolated incidents” (physical fights between employees and homeless, regular customers telling us they’re uncomfortable, etc.) that just make it miserable to be there. literally every shift there is something. there are countless yelp reviews on my location saying we need security and we have a huge homeless problem, my partners and i have begged my sm for months to try to get security in our store like i’ve seen others have, and short of that I dont know what else to do besides quit. it has truly gotten to the point where i wake up in the morning and i dread going in to work, not because it’s work and i’m 17 and it’s early in the morning, but because i genuinely do not feel safe at work anymore. i want to transfer, but that takes a month or so from what i’ve heard and i literally can’t do it for that much longer. how would you all suggest i quit? i’m bad with confrontation but i want my sm to know what’s good.

Get them a "sorry for your loss card" write "it's me. This is my two week notice"

Best thing I've seen on the internet.

i just told my dad about this and he choked on his salad

At one job I photoshopped a picture of a chihuahua in a sombrero and wrote “adios I quit” on it and handed it to my boss with my keys in an envelope and walked out.

Bravest and dumbest thing I’ve ever done.

If you want to transfer don't put in your 2-weeks notice, put in a partner resources complaint, and talk to your DM about transferring because you don't feel safe in your store. You can get around the waiting period if there compelling reasons.

I had one partner announce they quit with a note tied to a cooked sausage egg and cheese sandwich that they stuffed in a drop box.

Homeless people are not the problem. People who are acting violent, who happen to be homeless, are. Don’t act like not having a home makes them bad people

Exactly what I was thinking, just because they are homeless doesn’t mean they are bad, they are just less fortunate than you are.

Put yourself in their shoes, that could be you one day

all i know is if the homeless people were removed from my store, i would be able to comfortably work there. but the majority of them loiter, many shoot up in our bathrooms and get blood everywhere creating a biohazard, they make customers uncomfortable whether it be because they are asking them for money or for rides places or they’re just flat out crazy, and more often than you would think, they get violent. my store has 1 star on yelp because of it. i gave them the benefit of the doubt for the entire first year i worked for starbucks and i’m over it now. now on the flip side of that same coin, i have homeless regulars that i love! i will often give them my food mark out (even though i’m not supposed to) and i have a great relationship with a lot of them. i guess when they’re good, they’re great and when they’re bad, they’re god awful.

I worked on the 16th st mall in Denver, I get it. It’s not their fault though. Addiction, poverty, and mental illness including full-on psychosis are not their fault. It’s not really them after a point, you know?

Eh. I work in downtown denver (not 16th but still) and to a certain extent it isn’t their fault but consistently coming in and throwing their shit down wherever they please and begging for free coffee on a weekly basis when you’ve told them multiple times that you are unable to provide that for them, it becomes a situation where they are just taking advantage of you. You give them a water, tell them to consolidate or leave and then they stay for your entire shift wandering around, leaving their shit in your lobby and getting angry and threatening violence when you tell them to leave because loitering isnt cool and they arent gonna buy anything anyway.
I know i could be in the same situation someday, but this 17 yr old feels UNSAFE in a place of work. Thats not supposed to happen. Homeless people exist everywhere, yes, but if the majority of them coming into your store are threatening and violent or disturbing the peace, they should leave.

Their behavior is bad, but some of it is really out of their control. A huge percentage of them have severe brain damage :( I hope we all find a solution cause as we know the city of Denver treats them like shit. And trust me, I’ve had my frustrations too. My last day at a shitty ice cream shop there I chased someone down for stealing someone’s very expensive property and she started swinging at me and trying to get my friends to help her scale a building. 😳
