Manager said we shouldn't expect a thank you for doing our job(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Karensthought
My manager said we're payed to provide excellent customer service so we shouldn't expect a thank you from him or the District Manager when we're working hard. He said he gets all the pressure and stress.
Just wanted to know your guys' thoughts.

Agreed.

Your manager has a screw loose somewhere

Your manager is a cunt. You get paid a non living wage to be except towards shitbags? Maybe when we get paid more we’ll be more understanding of all the things expected of us :)

We aren't paid enough to provide "excellent" customer service. Adequate? Sure. Okay service, why not? But not excellent. If they think the pay decides how amazing our connections are, then we all need a raise.

That’s an asshole thing to say because he gets bonuses off of your hard work. You don’t see that money, he does. The least he could do is say thank you.

Your manager is an asshole.

He’s right. We shouldn’t expect a thank you for doing our job- we should expect a raise or tips

Fuck that guy with a steel spike
glittterturtles9 points3y ago
Oh yeah, writing the schedule and checking all your emails during peak sure does bring the stress
Give me a fucking break

Being paid does not give the customer license to be a jerk to you.
Most should say thank you, even if not with those precise words (or with words at all).

Have you told this to the DM? Is the DM a person who would thank you? I know this isn't possible for everyone but consider switching "Bux.
Also: THANK YOU for your hard work!

Cue corporate bootlickers saying “but that IS what we’re paid for!!! If you don’t like it maybe customer service isn’t for you!!!”
Kaylushhh3 points3y ago
That doesn’t sound very Starbucks. Some managers are wild!
Ziaheart3 points3y ago
I think "thank you" would be weird but "good/great/excellent/awesome/other positive adjectives job today" for working hard is warranted.

Your manager sounds like a Karen (Kyle?).

your manager is terrible at his job...I’m a management major and one of the first things that is taught is productivity goes up when there’s recognition. He needs a new career.
