Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Why is it that no matter what store I go to, there’s a creepy male customer I have to avoid (Grande rant) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 281itslit
It’s the creepy compliments, it’s the close-talking, it’s the idea that I can’t go wait for the bathroom because he’s sitting there at a table and I can’t go out to my car because I know he’ll at least follow me to the door and then he’ll know what my car looks like. I was at the condiment bar just now and rushing to finish rebagging the trashcans (WHY ARE THERE 3 OF THEM) because I saw him at the register and he waved at me, but lo and behold my fumbling fingers could not rebag them in time. So i got stuck talking about where he should visit in san diego or how he can get to yosemite from there (and he’s literally 10 inches from my face the whole time even as i kept slowly backing up) and i’m just...tired. You know?

I mean this guy doesn’t even make creepy comments he’s just always around, talks really closely, and I’m just struck by how I’ve had three home stores now and covered at countless others, and regardless of where I am, I can remember creepy dudes at every store I’ve had to avoid. There’s the guy who made it so I stopped wearing lipstick by leaning in really closely across the bar and remarking that he really liked how I looked today, and I should know what he’s talking about. Or the guy who literally reached out and caressed my arm tattoos before I could jerk my arm away and said I didn’t have those when I was at my other store, why did I get them all? Or just the ones who say I look cute or ask if my key necklace is the key to my heart (no i just liked it but damn you’re doing your best to change that), and i’m just fucking exhausted of having to avoid creepy-ass fucking men who have no sense of respect for women.

Rant over.

Creepy ass men are a staple at Starbucks. I know it’s hard to do, but you need to be firm in telling them they need to give you space, that it’s not okay to comment the way they do. And if you feel unnerved by ANYONE, it is your managers and SSV DUTY to make sure you are safe and to actually hear you out. If your store cannot do that you take it up with your DM.

You are not supposed to come to work to be afraid. You’re there to make coffee and connect with people. Don’t let these creepy men stop that. Stop them.

We have one that we call The Sleeper. He becomes obsessed with various baristas all the time. When for some unholy reason it was my turn to be his obsession, he brought in a portable speaker and blasted every song he could think of that has my name in it (I have a very common name so it was... It was a lot) and wouldn't stop until our SM threatened to kick him out.

He also brings the oddest gifts for us. When he asked one of the girls what kind of music she listens to, she told him "a little bit of everything" just to get him to go away. A few days later he came in with a couple CDs from Goodwill that were still Renaissance music.

And finally, when we finally get him to leave us alone, he sits in one of the armchairs and takes naps for hours at a time. When he wakes up, the cycle just starts again.

That isn't using the third space appropriately. Go and clap loudly next to him. Wake him up and tell him if he can't stay awake, hell need to leave.

So this one time this customer came in, ordered a tall dark roast then left. He came back a couple times after that, no big deal. Then one day he comes in and tells me I always looks so pretty and have a gorgeous smile, I thanked him handed off his coffee boom done. Then this one day during my shift he comes in and sits in the cafe. My shift begun at 12pm and I finished at 6, he sat there my whole shift which I thought was a little weird. Then as I finished my shift as a get ready to leave HE gets ready to leave. He proceeds to follow me through the store (this bux is in a metro market) and I needed security to escort me to my car. He now comes in once in a while and just sits there... I’ve told my store manager who spoke to him and this guy claimed it wasn’t his intention to make anyone uncomfortable.... some people need help 🙄

My store has at least 6 creepers.
I’ll take quiet, homeless and fucked up out of their mind over a Regular Creeper any day of the week.
