I reckon about 50% of the time my local Starbucks is like this. Goes from sorry there's a problem on our side to we're not accepting orders. Tried the app and web both the same. Is it an issue or is it just being switched off locally?

stores can’t turn off their mobile orders at will, they have to call their district and have it turned off by upper management and they only ever do that if there’s a problem so this is probably a problem with the app or that starbucks just frequently runs into issues like broken down machines

You don’t have to call anyone at all actually. There is one register that controls MOP. When we have issues with something that will effect our ability to complete mobile orders, ie we have to close the store in an emergency, we just turn the POS off and it disables MOP.
