What’s the transfer process like? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by vitamin_bae
Is there any room for me to take perhaps a month or two off if I am planning on moving my whole life from one city to another? Is this something Starbucks allows or will I have to fulfill a minimum number of hours to remain employed at either my old store or my new store or a mixture of both?

Does anyone here have any experience transferring? I think I know it is up to me to reach out to potential stores I’d like to transfer to and that after that, my original store SM must submit papers along with my new store SM...?

Should I try and access the employment thing for partners for openings in my new area? I just have to try to remember how to get there 😅

I’m a constant worrier so I’m trying to figure out as much as I can before I have to approach my SM. If no one here has any experience. I can bring these questions to him or my ASM. It’s not a done deal yet but it’s getting close so it’s almost time to tell my store I might be leaving. I should know in less than a month whether the move is on.

If you've been with the company for a certain amount of time (maybe 3 years?) They will let you take a month-long personal leave of absence. I did it to go to India and complete a yoga teacher training a few years ago. I feel like the people I talked to said you can do it every three years. You can keep your benefits and everything, you'll just have to cut a check for however much you normally have taken from your check a month and send it to benefits people. Your manager should be able to direct you to the right people to call. I can't remember if it was EAP or someone else.

I’ve transferred 2 times. I would talk to your SM first. It’s always good to contact the other store and get a good foot in with the SM there.
What I did was I told my manager a few months before that there was a possibility of me transferring.
Your SM needs to try and find a replacement for you (at least they did for me, busiest store in the state and I worked as a closer).

From there I just kept communicating with my store manager. Made sure she didn’t need anything from me. They need to get it approved from the higher ups, too.
So talk to your SM and then contact your other store you’re wanting to transfer to.

Hours wise- I had vacation time so I took a week off to move. My new SM also asked when my start date was and I think I could’ve put it off a little longer but you’ll have to talk that out with your new SM when filling out availability.

agnhhhh thank you. You’ve answered questions I didn’t even state. I was wanting to change my availability for my new store so if I have to fill out a new one for the new store, that’s awesome. I’ll talk to him tomorrow and do some more research about the area. He’s intimidating at times so I just get nervous. but we can hopefully level by the fact that we are both married and I’m doing this for my wife’s career (and because I want to! new adventures).

I didn’t really think of finding a replacement, makes me realize have some work to do thinking of the business bigger picture and less selfishly. That’s definitely something I want to give them the option to do even though we aren’t the busiest store. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’d hate for my team to have to go through another transition like they did before I was trained up.

Thank you very much for your reply

If can be a long process. I would start it ASAP so they can all prepare. The process only took me about a month but I was transferring within my district. If you are going out of your district prepare yourself for it to take a while, maybe 2-3 months. But it just depends. Could all go right and take a month or so.
