"how are you?"
"caramel frapp"
"i'm doing alright, thanks for asking"

Sometimes I will pull this and it brings those jerks down a bit

I'll usually just turn to the nearest barista and go " oh no, however will I make customer connections???"

“Good morning, how are you doing today?” To a regular... “venti pike”
Cool...I’ll just be over here
Really love all of this for us

My favorite is “I’ll be right with you” and then they start ordering then and there
SoulHendrix30143 points3y ago
“Hi give me one second and I’ll be right with you” “CAN I GET A VENTI-“ “HI GIVE ME ONE SECOND AND ILL BE RIGHT WITH YOU” “Oh...ok”
I love cutting them off for not having listening skills

I have a coworker that always passively corrects customers when they order ‘wrong’.
C: I need a caramel frappé
Her: a caramel Frappuccino, yeah what size?
C: large
Her: a Venti caramel Frappuccino, anything else?
It’s not much but it’s pretty funny to me sometimes.

It's literally in the training videos that we're supposed to repeat back small medium large not our sizes if that's what they say

Yes I know, it’s just the way she says it that gets me. She’s not rude about it but we all know what she’s doing and it cracks all of us up. ESPECIALLY if she’s dealing with a Karen

I actually use talking customers as a way to subtly slow down the line if it looks like my person on the bar needs it. Usually after a large party orders all of the frapps. If the line of drinks is really bad, I will just re-ask the question.
We usually only have two people working at a time.

For me it’s backwards. I’m antisocial and don’t care about a customers day so for me conversations go like
Customer- “Hey how are you?”
Me- “What could I get for you?”
C- “Doing good, can I get your overpriced coffee?”
M-“What size?”
C-“That’ll be all”
M-“What size?”

One time I was walking by the register, clearly walking away from it (I was holding two drinks and three pastry bags headed to the drop off) and I smiled to say hi to a customer (register was getting coffee for someone) and I kid you not as I walked smiling he stared yelling “GRANDE CAPPUCCINO!” like I am not even standing at the register I’m holding five things and you just are shouting orders at me? I was half tempted to yell “VENTI FRAPPUCCINO!” like it was a greeting.

I work in at a store in a grocery store. The regulars speak and talk about their day. But honestly if I'm horrible and my life is chaotic do you really want to know? Most never say how they are really feeling. I've only been working 2 weeks still learning. Some people are patient others get angry.

“Hello what can I get for ya?”
“Caramel frappe. Venti.”
“Okay, I’ll just go fuck myself 🙂”
malaika07-23 points3y ago
I don't like the how are you question in general. No one cares how I'm doing. They just want a drink. Does anyone really care? Not really. They want in and out ASAP.
doe_skin21 points3y ago
Well, we have to in order to try & raise customer connection scores, so it’s only kind for them to be polite & respond. Ignoring the question is just unnecessary.
And I actually really like talking with customers, for one. Some people I meet are really funny, kind, or interesting.

Not true at all. We’ve got tons of regulars that love talking to us

[serious] I don't know why you're getting down voted. I mean why is it okay to say, "Hello /Welcome. What can I get started for you?" in the drive through, but not inside at the counter?
I usually chat with the cashier is there is no line and she's not busy. Otherwise, I order my crap and scoot out of the way.
malaika074 points3y ago
That's what I say. Hello What can I get for you...if want to talk they will.
