We love customer interactions!(self.starbucksbaristas)

So my manager has been encouraging us to ask for names in the drive through to help form customer connections at the window. With this in mind my interaction today went like this:
Me: Welcome to Starbucks, this is Nate, what’s your name?
Customer: Venti dark roast
Me: Would you like anything in that?
Customer: Emily

it's lame and weird that corporate expects us to ask for personal details but also emphasizes sub 40s window times. also the idea that they expect us to carry on conversations with mobile orderers or just randos that haven't had any coffee and are basically half asleep. all very strange and nonsense

How come you never asked for my name nate?

That’s just a stupid thing to have to do...like if they get the survey asking if a barista tried connecting with them, why would they put yes just because there name was asked...there’s no logic. Especially in the freaking drive thru. Thankfully my SM doesn’t have us do that.
