Can we talk about how disgusting it is that we have to clean the bathrooms(self.starbucksbaristas)

I don't think anyone is pleased when I have to clean shit out of toilets 10 minutes prior to making people's drinks. We shouldn't have to do this!

You have no obligation to clean literal shit in the bathrooms. I believe that’s a law, but if it isn’t, it’s definitely a rule that SBUX is supposed to abide by. That’s at least what I was told when I started a few months ago.

I don't know if this is actually correct, but my store cleans what's in the toilet. If it's outside of it, like on the floor, then a shift will clean it if we refuse. The only reason why a shift does it is because they don't want us to close a bathroom because "it takes two days for the cleaning crew to respond". I know that last part isn't an actual rule, but that's just how my store does it and how our DM wants it done.
And yeah, the training does say that we don't have to clean up a big mess, but it says nothing about what's in the bowl. That is what we're expected to clean up. We even have little toilet brushes that we're supposed to use. It's nasty as heck.

If it’s simply a case of someone forgetting to flush. Suck it up, it’s not that big of a deal. Go get disposable gloves from the back and regardless you’re suppose to wash your hands twice before returning to the floor. If someone’s bowels exploded on/in the toilet, call it in.
Biohazard typically arrives the same day you call them. If they don’t, its not your fault. That is a problem for someone higher up the chain.
The policy is, if you discover blood, feces, urine or drugs in the restroom you call them and close the restroom till they arrive. It’s a Priority 1 issue. File an incident report. Partners cannot be asked to clean it. Basically, anything out of the ordinary. Anything beyond the reasonable amount of cleaning you would expect. If it’s bad enough that you will be without *any* restrooms for the remainder of the day, you call the DM and close the store till they arrive.

Surpassingly, people remember to flush. That's not the problem. The problem is that it seems like we get someone with explosive diarrhea multiple times a day. It gets all over.
And I guess it's just more of my store than anything. They absolutely refuse to close restrooms unless there's something wrong with the toilet. I've had a shift clean up a puddle of diarrhea on the floor because she wasn't about to close it up. We also didn't close the men's room when the urinal stopped flushing. And we STILL didn't close it when there was like 5 guys worth of pee just sitting in it. We just put a small sign up. I just think there needs to be more enforcement with these biohazard rules.

That definitely sounds like its a managerial issue at your location. Your SM either doesn’t fully understand, doesn’t care or is not properly coaching policy to the SSVs. I come from a district where we do not mess around. We follow policy to the letter. Because, at the end of the day, its not our money and we can point to the procedural handbooks, if anyone questions us or gets mad.

Unpopular opinion: when I’ve been on the floor during a never ending massacre and it finally ends and the shift asks if I want to clean bathrooms (or run trash or start sorting through a mountain of crusty dishes), I’m your girl. Take off my apron, keep my headset on to listen to the chatter and walk out from behind the counter for a while? Yes please!
ETA: I have two grown kids so toilets don’t scare me much because those fuckers were gross! Lol

I’m with you!!! I too am a mom, I have three boys and a tween girl so yea, toilets are a breeze and time away from the counter is a plus! Lol

You put on gloves right? You wash your hands after you finish cleaning the toilet, right? What is the issue? Seriously if it's in the toilet, yes that is our job to clean it. Cleaning is part of the job and while we can complain here, it's not going to change anything. The reality is bathroom needs to be cleaned regularly and there is no separate person that gets specifically hired/paid to do that job.

Its really not a big deal

cleaning toilets is a normal part of fast food workers’ jobs. if you don’t like it, i’d find a new job...
mango_drango9 points3y ago
We can still complain tho.
kylakat13 [OP]3 points3y ago
Especially when we have to work at a place serving coffee. You know what coffee typically makes people do? Shit. I don't want to clean that up.
Amazejin-4 points3y ago
right... you can complain but you can’t expect everyone to sympathize especially when people that work other places have to do the exact same thing.

How about “ no one should have to clean up someone else’s literal shit when they’re only getting paid minimum wage”.
