Safeway Starbucks to Corporate Starbucks?!(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Destiny_Marie5030
Trying to get into corporate because Safeway Starbucks sucks... I absolutely hate working there. I love being a barista but Safeway management makes me dread going to work almost everyday.. Trying to get into corporate... any thought??

Corporate sucks just as bad if I’m being honest. Plus with labor cuts everyone at corporate gets like 12 hours a week so it’s like ehh
(My friend works at a licensed store and says it’s much better)
But hey always give it a go. Maybe you’ll love it!

Corporate SBUX has it's serious downsides, but I left working for Safeway after three months (I was in the bakery department), and have been working for SBUX for over two years now. To others reading this, if you've never worked in a Safeway then you wouldn't know how horribly they are managed.
OP, I say give it a try. Apply to a cafe store if you can, drive through is fun but can be overwhelming. When you go in to interview, just bring forth the reasons why you love working as a Starbucks barista, and what more you are looking for in your work environment (leadership, teamwork, consistency, etc). Go to the Starbucks website and use those resources to find out what the company's values are, and see if they truly align with your values. And be sure to establish the amount of hours that you need and what time of day you would like to work. They will be honest about what they can offer you, and if they only offer you 15 hours, then maybe they can connect you to another store that needs more labor, or it's a sign you might need to look for another employer.
I truly wish you the best! Godspeed escaping that hellhole. I am happy to pass on the advice from the lovely Safeway baristas that landed me the job with the siren.

From everything ive heard, you'll make less money but it's generally better.

in albany or. i only make minimum wage at a corporate store as well. the benefits outweigh that tho

corporate starbucks generally make the local minimum wage (even below minimum by roughly 50¢ if they give you tips)

I mean I feel like corporate is better, usually its .50 to $1 over your areas minimum wage, probably better health and other benefits, etc. I'm sure it depends on the management. Sbux just has a very distinct culture, corporate is getting strict with labor and customer service but it depends on how the management in the area operates. Ask the store if you can get "full time" hours (usually like 32-38 in my experience) and get some sort of like written guarantee or something. Interview at a bunch of stores. Ones that depend on part time high school/college students for employees are less likely to have good hours because theres such high turnover and less full time ppl

Honestly it depends what Starbucks you’re at. I get $12 an hour and get about 25-30 hours a week (thank god).

I switched from a Safeway Starbucks to a stand-alone store in September! In my experience, it’s been significantly better. My pay went from $11.24 to $12.02, I’ve noticed that you get better customers (nicer, know what they want, etc.), you don’t have to deal with other entitled Safeway employees, and it’s way more organized.

also, i noticed in another comment you said you’re from Salem, so I think we had to deal with the same district managers & let me tell you I can almost GUARANTEE the manager (both store & district) at a stand-alone store will be better than the district managers for Safeway Starbucks hahaha
