Pdp examples? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by i_is_curtis
Hey there! I was just approached with the (scary but exciting) opportunity to work towards becoming a shift. I said yes, and was told I have to make a pdp. It seemed simple enough at the time, but I hit a bit of a road block on the second column. I can’t seem to find a good set of examples that aren’t too specific but also aren’t too general.

I might just be over thinking it, but
does anyone know where I can find examples? Would anyone possibly be willing to send me theirs?

You really need to talk to your SM about what their expectations are for your PDP, since they own the decision about promoting you. Different people have different ideas about what it should be. Some want very specific actions and tasks, others want it to be more about traits you want to work about yourself. Once you have a draft, Show it to your SM and ask for feedback on it.

Column 2 is all about what actions are you taking to work on the things from column one. So that really depends on what else is there. They should be tangible and measurable things. I.e. if in column 1 you said you want to work on becoming more of a leader then column 2 might talk about coaching and feedback and supporting your partners.

How many objectives should I put in the second column? Do you know any good “formal learning” examples to include?

There's no magic right number. It really depends on you. Your SM should be able to look at the things in column 2 and in a week or a month and say that you accomplished that, or you didn't.

I've seen PDPs with one thing in each column, and I've seen some that use an extra page to make room for a dozen items.

It depends on the info in your first columns

I don’t have it on hand but I believe it was something along the lines of “be more focused on quality” which I have things like sequence better, learn every drink (to standard), and coffee academy.
And “be more committed to customers” for which I have stuff like, greet every customer and make more connections at handoff. On this one I need some sort of formal learning for the second column.

Those are great goals for a barista! Sounds like you’re going home n the right direction. I would sit down for a one on one with your SM and ask what they are looking for. Ask other shifts what this input is and go from there.

We just got a new SM I was thinking of bringing it up whenever we have our 1 on 1 (he was planning on doing one with everyone), but I wanted to have some sort of draft ahead of time.

How many objectives should I have in the second column? And what are some good “formal learning” resources? (My ASM told me to have at least one for each.)

Sorry if any of that doesn’t make sense, I typed it out fast.
