My green bean wants to quit because she doesn’t think she’s good enough?(self.starbucksbaristas)

It’s not even a week after training my green bean and she wants to quit because she thinks she isn’t good enough. She says that going to work makes her anxious because she feels like she sucks at everything. But she’s SO GOOD! Obviously they aren’t super great on bar but they have the positive attitude, customer service, and passion for the job that we can’t train. I know that she would be a great partner, but I’m having trouble convincing her otherwise. What should I do to try and make her understand how well she is actually doing?

Do you have a green apron board? If you do then you could have all the other partners put cards in her pocket telling her nice things and that she’s doing great!

We do! I’ll make sure to let other partners know

As a ripening green bean (started Sep. 2019) it’s so scary at first because you feel like you do everything wrong and want to cry, but give it a month in, it’s way better once you memorize things, you can laugh and joke with your fellow partners if there’s time, and it gets better.

Tell her everyone goes through that phase, just take a breath. Getting a job at Starbucks isn’t about who is going to learn the drinks fastest, you could teach a monkey to bar, but you can’t teach customer service. Your sm saw that in her and that’s why she was hired.

I started in October, after my training week, I worked mids and it was the worst time of my life. I hated and dreaded going to work. I felt useless, I would go home and cry all day after my shift.. every one was so good and I was just uselessly looking around. They’d ask me for drive thru pastries, I would take forever finding them, I’d get yelled at. If there is any way that this shift can get put in front, that helped me a lot. You get to learn the pos system without the time pressure that’s on drive thru, if you guys warm your own pastries it helps too, and it’s just little things like that that helped me. And just make sure they know that they can ask questions. I ask a million of questions when I get put on bar still. I still get confused with Java Chip Frappuccino and Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino. But tell them to wait it out for a month cause that’s when you start getting comfortable with your peers and with the system. It’s a hard job. It’s the most mentally stressful job I’ve ever had.

Oh man, I just finished training and am struggling hard with the same feeling. I worked my first open and got briefly put on bar with stickers for drinks I'd never learned how to make and wanted to cry because I slowed down the other barista asking questions and made so many mistakes. :( I feel like a burden more than anything.

I felt the same exact way when I first started back in July, BUT my trainer and another shift made me feel like everything I did when I was new while I was learning was horrible and the end of the world. I love that you reassure her that she’s doing good and we all go through the overwhelming process of learning the ropes to a new job! Keep rooting her on, Positivity is key! Wish I had someone like you around when I first started. She can do it!👍🏼

You've got me thinking now... What is the difference between Java chip and double chip frapp? I thinks it's the whole whip cream at the bottom and the top for the double chocolate chip?

Java chip gets frap roast and coffee base, double doesn’t get frap roast and gets creme base. Double is just a non-caffeinated version of Java Chip. Mocha cookie crumble is a java chip with the whip on the bottom and the cookie topping.

OMG.. yes.. thank you!

Of course! I was a total java chip junkie in middle school so it’s one of the only drinks that comes naturally
