Hi guys! I am about to graduate high school so that means college! I want to work my way up the ladder with Starbucks and possibly become a store manager one day. With this in mind, I also have always wanted to psychology. Depending on how my future works out, I would hopefully fall into one of those job types. So, should I get my degree for Business Management with the ASU program, or would I be better off getting a degree for Psychology. I guess my question is, to be a manger with starbucks, do you need a degree? Hope that made sense!

You definitely don’t need a degree to be a manager. Just need to have graduated high school lol

It definitely depends store to store, but business degree would probably more helpful. I would advise you to stay aware of the work progression culture and the way your manager views it.
At my store, my SM doesn’t promote anyone. They’ll talk about it, but nobody ever actually gets the promotion. That’s a fault on my SM, and lots of SM’s are great and encouraging about moving up the ranks.
Just remember to put yourself first. If the SM at a store isn’t helping you move forward, if you ever become stagnant, move on- even if it’s just to a new store!
Best of luck!

My sm got his own store after just 4 years of barista/asm.. so it's definitely doable in the"near" future. However, a business degree will push you farther and higher in Starbucks and any corporate setting. Do it. And let Starbucks pay for it at ASU! Win win.

if you don’t want to wait 10-15 years to advance through the ranks from barista to SM, definitely go for the business degree. i see so many baristas wait years on YEARS just to get promoted to SSV.
