My coworkers become monsters when given power (self.starbucksbaristas)

I've watched this happen 3x so far. A really good partner and trainer gets promoted to the shift lead position and their personalities completely changed.

Shift A was a kind sweet person and only a shift for a single pay period, they bullied us all and then took a paid vacation that was also their two weeks.

Shift B completed their training. Made a mess of the back room then transfered out. I honestly miss them because they are probably the only person I know who could body block our current manager from bar and that would be funny.

Shift C was a dedicated employee be who would regularly pick up shifts and was always on time. After their promotion they haven't shown up for a single shift, all of them have coverage but that can't be acceptable.

Please tell me I'm not alone in this whole "power corrupts" scenario.

We have one who's been honestly our second best shift right now after their rise to power. Granted the bar is low and also they don't see how good they actually are.

We have a barista who has been trying to become a shift for the longest time but most people agree it just wouldn’t work with his personality or how he works and he’s transferring to another store and becoming a shift.

People let the position get to their head, thinking that because they were being told what to do now they get to do it but worse, as revenge. Will never understand.
I got promoted a couple of months after 2 baristas were promoted because everyone complained about how they were being unfair: overworking baristas while they stayed in the backroom on their phones, not taking responsibility for their shift and blaming others, etc. If you are getting promoted it’s for a good reason, not to act like a brat. If you knew the struggle of a barista, make it better as a shift so no one has to struggle, you get more motivated baristas that want to help out.

Shift c recently asked "what can I do if people constantly complain about how I run shifts."
And I'm just sitting here like "what shifts... You haven't been here"
