So long, farewell... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by princessofpeas1975
Well, this past Sunday was my unannounced last shift. I've been with the company for over two years, and spent most of my time as a barista trainer (which I love doing and am good at). I work with an amazing SM, and, for the most part, a great team.

There is one partner, however, that I must mention: "Jason." From the moment I started working, he has been a pain in my ass. Arguing with me, disrespecting me (I'm almost TWO DECADES his senior, and do not take kindly to this), and generally making everyone miserable. I hated working with him, and from what I can tell, so does everyone else. He's snotty, mean, and always in a terrible mood, which he passes onto partners AND customers. I know my SM has spoken with him several times, but I do not think he'll ever do something "bad enough" to warrant being fired.

When I walked into the store on Sunday, I could feel that something different was in the air. Lo and behold, Jason wasn't working his normal shift and we were all elated! The happiness and relief of all of us was palatable. It was so awesome, that the fact that all of the label machines weren't working for most of my shift wasn't even a big deal. We had fun, we helped each other out, it was great.

I had been discussing leaving 'bux for the last several months with my SO. I'm working another job in a new field and am also in school. I just don't need the free coffee anymore, and I don't need the stress of working with Jason. So, that being said, I contacted my SM after my shift and said my journey with the company has ended, and on a good note.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your highs and lows, for lifting one another up when things get tough and Karen is being totally unreasonable. Know that you are valued, even if it seems that we're "just slingin' coffee." You matter.

I know this was long, and if you made it this far, thank you. Keep smiling!

In every job I have worked there has been a "Jason" and unfortunately Starbucks is not immune. I have had SSs and even SMs that have partners walking on eggshells their whole shift. Getting barked orders at all day and being reprimanded on the floor in front of customers. It is amazing the influence one person can have on the team. One bad apple will bring the team down with him/her, especially if they are in a leadership position. I know that feeling of relief when that particular person is not around and partners are actually doing better at their jobs since they are relaxed, even in a stressful time.

Sorry that one person ruined your Starbucks experience. However, I do not blame you. There have been times that I have considered quitting because of partners like Jason.

Yes.. I feel this. Getting reprimanded in front of customers is the worst!

There’s a shift leader I’m having an issue with like this. Snapping at me for no reason, reprimanding me in front of customers, and from what I suspect after a text I received today blaming me for an issue with a customer. It’s weird because this shift leader isn’t always like that, but gets into moods and targets me at times. I love this job (only been working at Starbucks a few months) and want to keep it, but the stress of working with this person does get too much at times.

Sorry that a person drove you away. It sucks what the negative energy of one bad employee can do. But it’s nice to read that you left on a positive note!

My last job had a jason and I 100% put him in my reasons for leaving. My manager clearly liked me better but for some reason did jack about this guy and his god awful attitude. Hes even still working there and it’s been a year and a half.
