Hey fellow baristas! I am a green bean and have been working for the bux for less than a month. I have generally been enjoying my work but the Drive Through position is absolute heck for me. Literally cannot handle the grumpy 4am customers, the beep of the headset, and doing a thousand electronic-based things at once. Every time I hear the beep I panic, lol.
I really like working bar and front POS, and am pretty good with the front customers. My store manager says I have a good personality for Starbucks and is going to try transferring me to a slower cafe store.
Does anyone prefer cafe stores over DT stores? I am curious to hear opinions!

From my experience covering cafe only stores, they can either be the slowest place in the world, or straight up chaos, all depending on location. However, I think Café only stores are better for getting to know people.

Oh my haha. I really want to get to know the regulars!

I prefer drive over front. I find front gets boring easily. With drive more people are coming by so the shifts go by faster. If I’m front I end up finishing 2-4 cards by noon.

I hate DT with a fiery passion however I’ve been covering in cafe stores and 100% coming from a DT store to cafe store makes it so boring and slow.

Oh wow!!! This is good insight, thank you

I personally always work at 4am at a DT store and I’ve been doing this for the past year and a half. It definitely gets easier as the time goes on, you’re more used to waking up before dawn and not as tired. I start to enjoy not having to talk to too many people for a good amount of my shift and have also made some great connections with the early regulars.

I feel that. I like the early mornings but the drive through crowd is rough haha. Especially on Friday at 6am when they need there caffeine ASAP lmao

in my experience they’re pretty different worlds. if customer connections are your favorite part of the job, and you find yourself stressed under chaotic pressure of DT, a cafe store will most likely be your best option. might not hurt to go visit to see what you may be dealing with.
