so someone came through our drive thru tonight and asked for this. all of us were so confused, but they legit just wanted what our favorite drink is. i dislike internet starbucks trends just as much as everyone else but this is kinda wholesome so i’m sorta here for it? y’all are getting iced chai tho, no debate. unless it’s slow time and we can have some fun making a drink.

Someone came through the DT today asking for a surprise me drink. None of us knew wtf it was, so DTO just put in a Gr Cappuccino. Handed it out to the customer and they were mad that it had coffee in it, saying the surprise me drink is supposed to be a frappuccino. Then proceeded to throw random things into a blender and made them a frappuccino. If you want a frappuccino then just well damn say so.

frappuccinos are just for people that don't drink coffee and want an overpriced milkshake

I’ve drank coffee black coffee since I was born and like frappuccinos due to the fact that you can’t finish them in 10 seconds lmao

So wait... Old lady gen x here, is the surprise me drink an actual recipe? Or is it legit giving them my favorite drink? Cuz it would be a hot coffee drink for sure.... Fill me in on this..

As far as I know SB does not have a drink called a surprise me drink or a recipe. I believe its something that started online and people think its something cool to do. All my coworkers and I had no idea what this surprise me drink was. As a concept, sure it is fun to go through the drive through and have someone choose your drink for you. But what bothers me is when you say surprise me and then get to the drive through window and complain that you didn't get what you wanted.

Ok.. thank you for the clarification! I work in a Mall location and the teens come in filming each other ordering constantly. It's so..... Aggravating? Embarrassing? Rude? I dunno... I'm trying to embrace the tik tok/snap chat ideas, but not at the cost of my own embarrassment. That's so not cool.
sunshine4554 points3y ago
Yeah... I feel like there should be some form of respect still. Yes I am paid to make your coffee but we're all still human beings regardless of which side of the register we are on. And the least a customer could do is show the little bit of respect for our privacy as a human being. I don't understand how people can just forget and think that because they're the ones buying the coffee they are allowed to be extremely entitled.

Are you allowed to refuse to take an order if they don't turn off the camera because I would not be okay with this either? I hate being filmed by people I don't know.

People have been doing this sort of thing forever though. I’ve regularly gone up to baristas and asked to order their favorite drink or had them make whatever they wanted that day. I got the idea from others on this sub ages ago.
Like it’s a cute and wholesome idea and I guess it’s good that it’s spreading amongst social media, but not if the asshole ordering *expects* a certain type of drink...! That defeats the fun behind it!

I want to give them a Trenta cup of water, but we have been making double shots on ice for them.
MommyKinz1 points3y ago

literally 90% of us at my store use and share tik toks regardless of age. well aware it’s for teenagers but when some tight burnt memes come up i just get sucked in. but yeah, honestly i’m not that mad at this trend.
pyschopete5 points3y ago
I had to delete my comment cause I didnt want anyone at my store to find me. But it is a fun app but honestly expecting your local starbucks employees to keep up with the memes on it is a bit asinine.
different_as_can_be [OP]1 points3y ago
agreed. i’m with ya on that one. just lucky i stumbled across it, thought maybe it would help if i posted it in case bc i sure wouldn’t have.
