Call in orders? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ashykiinz
So this morning a woman called asking to place a drink order over the phone, I said we can’t do that but you can place a mobile order on the Starbucks app. She was very angry & asked for the manager (oops it’s me) then asked for the SM’s name. I told my SM about it because she was definitely upset & I don’t want her coming for my job lol. He said, you should never tell a customer no (apparently our normal policies mean nothing if a customer is unhappy *eyeroll*) & that I missed an opportunity to make a customer connection. So long story short I just want to know are we allowed to take orders from people just calling in? I was told that the only call in orders we were allowed to take were travelers, however my SM says otherwise. I tried looking on the hub for any information & have found none & I don’t want to be THAT person to ask my DM but I’m tempted.

**if you can provide any sort of source for your answer that’d be amazing**

We are not allowed to take call-in orders. Sometimes we can make exceptions if the customers lets us know that it’s for a remake, but we have to print the receipt and make it when they come in. Anything other than that is a strict no. Reason being that they can try to take them w/o payment or just not come in at all, which results in loss of product.

Travelers and Cambros are allowed, typically a few days in advance and we write on our DCR that they’re not paid yet.

That’s exactly what I thought!! Do you have a source for this answer? I really want to bring it up to my SM

Honestly, this comes from my DM. She is very policy-forward so usually if something like this comes up then she explains why it’s against standard/policy but let me see if i can find it on the partner hub

Thank you so much! I tried looking earlier but couldn’t find anything

I couldn’t either, but let her know that DM’s typically do not approve of over-the-phone ordering for the reasons I mentioned above. I’ll ask my DM next time I see her, I’m very curious about this now.

Edit: i googled it and it looks like there was a post on the customer service page that as of 2017 ordering thru the phone is no longer a thing. The post was deleted but can still be previewed through google: https://imgur.com/7oRUTh5

What's a cambro?
menthol-drops 2 points 3y ago
It’s a five gallon tote of coffee, typically they’re ordered as part of donations or for larger gatherings, they serve up to 100 people. I think only corporate stores have them bc my first store was a licensed store and we didn’t have them, but my current is a corporate store, and does have them. We sell them for $118 each

They can also order online and not through the app, like Starbucks . Com, we tell them no unless it’s like. 40 drink order with 40 sandwiches then we get the info the night before so we know in the morning.
