you have no obligation to cover shifts hun. you’re all good

Make sure you get paid for mileage and extra time spent commuting

you get mileage for being a borrowed partner???

So it may vary by state but if you’re required to commute extra you should be getting paid for mileage and the extra time spent doing so

You’re definitely not required to work unscheduled shifts. You should not be directly penalized for denying a request to pick up additional hours.
Obviously baristas who are flexible, have open availability, and are constantly working extra shifts to provide coverage for the store will generally be prioritized when it comes to scheduling. You may see a cut in hours or find yourself with shifts across unfavorable dayparts as a result, but you should not actually get in “trouble.”

Also, it’s a bummer to hear your management team has members that treat you rudely. Starbucks is such a great place to cultivate teamwork and create a familial atmosphere, I hope things turn around or you’re able to find a store that makes you feel Recognized, Included, Appreciated, Supported, and Delighted. <3

When you're off the clock you have no obligation to do any work. You are not obligated to pick up extra shifts. It's just a nice helpful thing to do sometimes. What I usually do in that situation is wait until after the shift is over and send a message to say thanks for thinking of me but I didn't see your message until afterwards.

you cannot be penalized for saying no to working if you’re not scheduled
