Always loved how you have to give 2 weeks notice to quit or change your schedule, but they can fire you or cut your hours whenever the feel like it and with all the explanation of “well, the wind changed”
[deleted] 34 points 3y ago
Yup they can even fire you with zero reason out of the blue!!! It’s great :’)
Lilium816 5 points 3y ago
A lot of companies can. It's called an "at-will" employment oslt. It's written in the fine print of your application. You acknowledge this term and agreed to it upon applying.
[deleted] 6 points 3y ago
Yeah, iirc it’s also called “right to work” or something along those lines.
Lilium816 5 points 3y ago
Right to work is related to unions, I believe.
NOTcreative- 2 points 3y ago
Right to work is opposite of at-will. It’s state law and the majority of states are at-will which means any job can let you go for no reason at all.

My old store manager required 3 week notice and I told him I’d only work for the 2 and that I had a new job lined up already. He didn’t talk to me the rest of the 2 weeks and was being petty.

The new job fired me (long ass story) and I needed a job so I reapplied but was told by a friend that I was marked as non-rehire.

Turns out he quit shortly after I did and only gave a 2 week notice like I did.

So much for 2.5 years of working there and still being on good terms with everyone that still worked as a barista and even shift supervisors were shocked that he had done that.

I’m now working at a Target Starbucks making more than the shifts at my old store, I work more hours than the shifts, AND it’s less stressful (most days lol)

TL;DR
Fuck Starbucks management. I’m way better off now.

A two week notice is a courtesy not a requirement. Lmao I’m glad that person just texted to quit
SurgeQuiDormis -5 points 3y ago
It's not a "requirement" but courtesy is the wrong word. Giving two weeks notice is more along the lines of not hitting someone with your bike. If they fucked your sister, go for it. But otherwise.. It's not courtesy, it's decency. It's a very spectacularly asshole move to NOT give notice. Again, unless screwed over majorly.

You don't deserve these down votes.
Quitting on the spot fucks your fellow baristas 10x as much as it fucks the boss over

Except for them last tips
kiervince 8 points 3y ago
I left a job (not sbux) midshift and my only regret was never going back for my last tips/brand new water bottle I forgot. Rip me.
CreepingWax 3 points 3y ago
I thought they mailed your tips to your last known address after a certain amount of time or something.
kiervince 3 points 3y ago
Not that job. One of the managers wanted to throw someone’s tips back in the pool the DAY after they no called.

When will labor cuts end?
JustForBrowsing 40 points 3y ago
After I'm kicked out of my apartment for not being able to pay rent lol
Dir7y_dan 12 points 3y ago
I Literally had to use cup fund for this
katiejaguar 5 points 3y ago
Can you explain how that worked?
Dir7y_dan 1 points 3y ago
So initially I had spent a bunch of money on hurricane preparedness supplies which cut into my rent money so I applied online. my coworker was reimbursed by cup fund because it was considered disaster relief. I tried to do the same but for whatever reason they said since I technically still have a home (not evicted yet and she was already homeless prior to the hurricane)I couldn’t get it. They literally made me wait until I had an eviction notice to be able to get the funds. I had to send them a picture of the eviction letter as well as an explanation as to why i needed the funds. The whole process took a 3 weeks or a month because they wanted to wait for the eviction notice. I was able to get $500. The eviction notice has to state how much you owe. In my case I needed 500 to complete it so they wanted also proof of how much I paid and how much I owed.

what I heard is around valentine's. supposedly.
ngessner6 21 points 3y ago
I mean any at will job doesn’t really require it. So them saying they ‘need’ it really means ‘it’s gonna be annoying filling your spots on the schedule for the next two weeks.’.
RegularFrappuccino 18 points 3y ago
Lol there is no requirement for two weeks. Even starbucks policy says “partners should give two weeks if possible. “ #atwill
gaayrat 10 points 3y ago
I support my comrade
huelgaa_ 3 points 3y ago
Not required but don’t bother using that job as a reference
[deleted] 1 points 3y ago
2 weeks notice is only if you care about the job and want references.
