PCC on Manager? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lilipoxx
My manager constantly hangs out with certain baristas. He has a group chat with some of them, snapchats them, goes out drinking, and goes to concerts. The only problem is that it creates an unfair work environment, because these baristas are now the favorites. They show up late to work, call out, and are disrespectful towards the SSV’s. The manager won’t say anything to them because they’re friends. So the rest of us have to deal with them thinking they’re allowed to do what they want.
I don’t feel comfortable enough to talk to my DM about it, because he’s a very spiteful person and if he found out I complained, he’d retaliate in some way. This has happened before with another barista speaking out and he ended up telling everyone that partner was “fucking nuts”
Is calling PCC the right call? Should I trust the system and call my DM? Please help. I love this company and want to stay with it but the work environment this is causing is so stressful!

Yes, talk to your DM. At the very least you can request a transfer without getting into the weeds of why you want to go.

Call PCC there there to listen to workplace complaints especially when you feel uncomfortable talking to your managers.

That's not okay at all. Once a shift at our store became manager he stopped hanging out with any employees because of exactly that reason. He may have favorites in his head, but he would never make such an obvious unprofessional move. Once manager, just get other manager friends. Lol.

Yeah, calling would be your best choice. Don’t be surprised about the ramifications tho, I’ve been in a store where partners called about the manager and while said manager did not retaliate it made for a very uncomfortable work place cause of the speculations.

I’ve been friends with managers before but there is a very fine line. I get it you’re not supposed to be friends with them, it can be hard cause a lot of times you’re spending countless hours with them and a decent amount of the time you’re in the same age bracket as SMs. At the end of the day if you end up friends with a manager you have to keep it on the DL, not show favoritism, and be willing to make a stand when they start using your friendship as an excuse to do nothing and be lazy.
