No, We Don’t Make The Sandwiches (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Peebles46
I had two customers come in yesterday asking about the breakfast sandwiches. One asked if we had the sausage and cheddar and I pulled one out to show him. He just looks at me and says “oh they’re prepackaged?” I’m like “yeah they come frozen and we thaw them and heat them up.” He then laughed and looked at his friend and said “Starbucks can’t even afford to make their own sandwiches?” To which I replied “Tim Hortons makes their own, they’re across the street” (it had been an incredibly stressful morning and I was tired). The customer and his friend order lattes (no sandwiches) and spend two hours in cafe. They don’t clean up their cups and they don’t push in their chairs.

I always wondered why we bother setting up a display case to just throw it out at the end of the night. When you could just get some nice display food or just a better menu. And then I realized that 90% or customers believe we're hand crafting everything, and the display case is a big part of the reason why. Because what company would have an elaborate fake stage to demonstrate their fresh sandwiches and pastries ever day, other than to convince you of the fact that your high quality overpriced breakfast is fast food crap.... Haha, imagine.

No mama, I can't add some lemon, or double the bacon, or slice up some tomato. Whoops it's all premade bullshit.

Had someone on DTO this AM ask us if we liked the pumpkin loaf, we say it's great blah blah blah, it has pumpkin seeds on top, etc. And this woman asks if we have any that don't already have pumpkin seeds on them? Like, fresh ones from the oven? She doesn't like pumpkin seeds so can we slice her a new one from a fresh loaf?

Yes, she was disappointed when we told her it was made "off site" and prepackaged.

“From a fresh loaf” oh my god

I was on window and my SM was on DTO and she just stared wide eyed at me at this woman's questions lmao

I'm at a target Starbucks and we get this alllll the time. I'm like, we have 1 person working... did you really think I came in to bake all these pastries and prep all these sandwiches?! It would take HOURS! People are so dumb sometimes

Just the other day, a customer asked for their egg on their sandwich to be over easy 🤦‍♀️

I am actually terrified of the day they let customers customize their own sandwiches. I hope that day never comes.

I can’t believe they actually thought that we make our own sandwiches 😭😭, then had the audacity to be messy.

We had a guy asked for the bacon to not be double smoked. Like no, we can’t do that. I love it when people think we cook in house

I’ve never heard that one before. Oh lord

For a while out district had a guy coming into stores and demanding a free sandwich because the last time he ordered one the barista “messed up” and “put the wrong cheese/meat” on the one he ordered. He eventually stopped after every single store told him it was impossible because sandwiches come pre packaged.

I love it when people ask me if I can make them a sandwich on a different bread, like getting the sausage cheddar on the ciabatta. They don’t like it so much when I tell them I’d have to charge them for both sandwiches as they come prepackaged.

People really out here thinking we have time to make drinks AND food??? As if we have a bakery in the back! I’ve had people ask for different bread or add tomato on the sandwich lol

I know this is an old post but I had someone ask me to add sausage to a double smoked bacon and he was perplexed when I told him we can’t do that

I worked at a bakery that baked from scratch before Starbucks, and you'd be surprised at the amount of people that didn't believe we made our own products. At SB, it's the opposite. I had a guy get angry because we didn't have ketchup packets for the breakfast sandwiches (if this sounds odd, ketchup is a huge deal on porkroll/Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches in NJ). Sir, we are not your corner deli. 🙄

When I worked at a licensed store, there was a man who asked me probably about 15 questions about the sandwiches and didn’t pause to let me answer. He was asking like “How long does it take to make them? Do you have to come in early to prepare them? And there’s only one of you here? That’s a lot of work you have to do, that’s really incredible...” and I had to cut him off because he wouldn’t stop talking. “They’re frozen. I just thaw them and put them in the oven. All our food is like that.” He stopped and looked at me for a second, nodded his head, and said “Thank you for your honesty.” 😂 He was a really sweet guy.
