Is it normal? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bbun223
I’ve been with sbux about a year now and I’ve been a SSV for about 3 months. We had a super busy holiday season and now that it’s over our SM has cut back all the hours. We are a newer store so our peaks still don’t have a set time and we don’t have much data to go on for customers/sales projection. It’s very random but for the most part there is a span of a few hours in the morning where we maintain a minimum of 30 customers every half hour. Usually doesn’t go above 50. Now during these times we only have 3 people on the floor and I have to run lunches. I get so stressed out everyday when I have to send people on a 30 min break and I find myself either attempting to double bar or trying to manage POS, brewing coffee, warming mobile food and making mobile drinks when DT starts to get overwhelmingly busy. On a good day when the other 2 partners I open with are more experienced things are still hard but it’s manageable. But many days I have to open with either newer partners or partners who just haven’t got the hang of things and can’t be on bar when it’s that busy. Even putting these partners on DTO is a painful experience. I’ve asked my SM about her scheduling the next person who comes in the morning earlier because the days that someone does start earlier things go so much more smoothly. Or at the very least schedule someone earlier the days she has me opening with partners she KNOWS only feel confident on POS. She tells me that she is scheduling based on our projected customers and that our data is off and she will talk to our DM about it. But in the meantime we feel like we are suffering every morning. Is it normal to have 2 people on the floor in a dt store? When cars are lined up into our parking lot, 4 customers are in line at POS and mobile orders start pouring in it literally feels like an impossible situation and just makes me feel like I’m failing. We never have more then 3 max 4 people on the floor and at a certain point we so desperately need a CS person but I just don’t have enough partners to have someone solely cs. I end up killing myself everyday stocking and cleaning while I’m on DT between serving customers PLUS having to do all my SSV duties and keeping up with running breaks. It just feels like a lot and I don’t know if this is just the way it is for everyone.

I have an extremely busy DT store and we have 3 people open (2 baristas and a SSV) @ 4am and the next person usually comes in at 5/5:30 then 6/6:30 and we’ll have a 6-8 person play by peak (7/7:30)

Idk if that answered your question cuz I’m kinda new too but hopefully it did

Damn. The only time we ever have a 6 person play is on the weekend...sometimes..... if we don’t get any call outs. We open at 4am with 2 partners and a SSV and no one comes in until 7/7:30 and it’s usually our SM herself and let’s just say.... she can only be POS.

Only time we every had a 6 person play during the week was through December and even though we were super busy and stressed it was nice having enough partners, being able to flex the plays and not feel like you were getting burned out in the same spot. Thanks for the reply.... I just wanted to see if it was manageable/ normal to work a 3 person play during peak or if I’m just incompetent.
