someone used my drawer to DTR for several hours... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hexedwitch
So let’s start off by saying this is my fault for not realizing this and letting it continue to happen. I’m new, I didn’t think of it, we were short on people and it was chaotic.

This girl came in late (to an obviously busy store) and she mentioned something about unassigning me, but I told her to finish the last order (obviously my mistake again). So several hours goes by and I’m getting ready to leave and my manager says “Is there any chance you put $20s in the wrong drop box” and I told her no and that I was on DTO all morning and that this other girl did DTR.

So we go through it all, I explained how she showed up, we were slammed, we never switched the drawers and all that jazz. Well it turns out I’m $10 short on -my- drawer. So of course the whole “it wasn’t me” doesn’t hold up so I didn’t make excuses, just explained what happened.

Now I’m just worried that my manager is upset with me. She seemed like she didn’t believe what I told her (about the busyness/awkward switch/me being on DTO all morning).

I talked to the shift and he said it wasn’t a problem because it was so crazy today and it was an honest mistake, but like I said, I can’t help but feel like my manager is really upset with me?? Will I get written up for this??

My store used to share tills constantly. It wasn’t a huge deal. SM cracked down a little more after a few issues came up, but no one ever got talked to when their till was short. It’s probably not a big deal just let it blow over

That makes sense. I haven’t been there long so I don’t know if it’s a constant issue or not. I’m sure it’ll be fine like the shift told me, I just always worry 🙃

You shouldn’t be written up for this I think. But that’s the reason why everyone who assigned a drawer suppose to close their register so only you can access it

I definitely know that now. This was only my second time on drive thru (and working with someone on it as well), so I really had no idea. The other girl is new too, so I don’t think that helped much either.

Oof. I don’t know what’s that is. But I imagine it sucks

There are cameras everywhere... If it's truly an issue, they will pull the feed dad's figure it out. Don't worry.. you're fine.

This is why we never share tills. Now you're in the hot seat for someone else's mistake. In theory you both could get a corrective action, the other person deserves it more though for ringing on your till for the whole shift. $10 isn't enough money to make that big of deal out of especially if it's a one time thing. In my store you'd probably get a stern lecture from the SM about cash handling policy.

And that’s what I think happened. She explained everything pretty clearly, but I wasn’t sure if I would be written up. It definitely was a hard lesson to learn, that’s for sure.
