The second you pick it up, it’s 100% your responsibility to cover because it became your shift

Um... yes. 100%. Please re-evaluate your value system if you think otherwise. YOU said that YOU would cover. Now YOU back out and it’s someone else’s job??

It is now your responsibility, sorry my guy. Guarentee that showing up is going to go 100x better for you than the fallout of not showing up. If you don't, you could be written up or fired w/o a warning for a no call no show, if you're manager is serious enough.

Yes it's your responsibility. Once you pick up the shift it's your shift and your responsibility to cover it. Don't accept a shift unless you can actually do it.
