Questions about hours (green bean) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by parisdiva96
I just started working at the bux in November. I recently got a new job and wanted to work just a couple of days at Starbucks. I told my SM and she said that she could not have me only work a couple of days a week. That she did not do that and the company did not do that. Now I know I’m new so I don’t know if it’s just her way of letting me go but isn’t Starbucks supposed to be able to accommodate? I don’t know if I should just quit or fight her on this and try to reach out to partner support. Any help would be great. Thanks guys

Hey, do you mind clarifying a little about your schedule?
You absolutely CAN change your availability, but know that your manager might choose not to schedule you because of that. I know supervisors who ONLY work 3 days a week and ONLY work from 4a-9am. I know baristas who have similar schedules, can only work m-th 4:30-CL.

There is no company policy that says you HAVE to have an open availability or work a minimum of X hours. (Though for benefits, you need to work a min of 20/wk average).

Partner resources is always an option, and shouldn't be seen as a shady or bad thing, especially if you're asking for support or clarification.

Your manager may be unwilling to budge, but you can transfer or contact PRSC for more guidance if she doesn't.

So I got a new job that would be Monday-Friday. So I asked to only work weekends. She said she did not need a partner who could only work weekends. She said that it would not fit her store and that if she did that for me she would have to do it for everyone. Can I transfer even though I’m new? She said that I would have to work at Starbucks for a year to be able to transfer to a new location.

Technically you can submit a transfer after 3 months. It might be true that your manager cannot accommodate your availability for just giving you 2 days a week. Your best option are to either change your availability to "unavailable from mondays-fridays", but this might need to be done weeks in advance, (since the availability for is normally every 6 months), or another option is to transfer somewhere where they can accommodate your availability.

If your manager normally schedules you both weekend days and you are a strong partner, to the point that they probably cant afford to lose you, then you can try to fight for only working on the weekends.
