please stop ordering your tall blonde anericano in a grande cup. to us, you just ask for a tall drink in a grande cup. how was i supposed to know you wanted a grande drink. don’t grab the cup out of my hand angrily, reach behind the counter and use the hot water tap, and proceed to fill it up the rest of the way while calling me an idiot. she even repeats over and over again “you see, this is what makes it a tall. if you don’t fill the cup up, it isn’t a tall. i know it’s in a grande cup, but i ordered a tall, so you fill it up the whole way, so it’s a tall.” i get you have bad days and you just want your coffee, but at least know what you’re ordering and try not to be a complete ass. -Thank you, your friendly starbucks barista, Zach

Just tell her to order a double Grande Americano. Save everyone from dealing with her.
FutureKnightMaybe21 points3y ago
Bro Zach good on you for being patient I would have probably made a snide comment about cheapskates. Here’s to hoping there’s not another next time bc Karen will probably burn her hand if she does it again and even though we don’t like Karen we don’t wish burns upon anyone.

yeah i basically just yanked it and agreed that i am indeed an idiot. next time i’ll tell her it’s dangerous for everyone when she does that, and if that doesn’t work, then hell idk i’ll tell my manager that heather with her blonde americano is a psycho who’s gonna burn herself.
MamaDavenport17 points3y ago
So she basically just wants a grande blonde americano without paying for a grande? Girl no.
the_lady_flame9 points3y ago
yeah except shitty and weak ashskjdfh i absolutely hate these lazy hacks of like "pwetty pwease i want two shots on ice so i can go fill with half and half on the condiment bar and pretend it isn't a latte uwu" like!!! stop it!!!! it's one thing if you want a tall coffee in a grande cup so you have lots of room for cream, but doooooon't with espresso drinks ok karen
JCaligirl4207 points3y ago
That’s when I fill it with ice!!! I had someone come up and say I need more milk in this, and I said ok come to the register and we will do a refund and charge for a latte! Idgaf anymore. I’m over the siren and the shit we have to put up with, a 4 man during busy afternoons is for the birds! And I made my baristas be a 3 man because I refused to skip my lunch, and not leave early, again!
vendxetta6 points3y ago
the only valid reason for “tall in a grande” is you want less shots but more milk since ngl i feel like an additional shot is more expensive than extra milk so it kinda sucks to pay the same price but get less of what you’re supposedly paying for
NOTcreative-10 points3y ago
Good way to go about this is to casually explain is a passive aggressive manner that the default for such a drink is extra room. If she wanted extra water she can order extra water in the future to avoid confusion and not treat the next barista who does the same thing like and idiot when she is the one who doesn’t understand. Cause her embarrassment and a learning experience and save future baristas from her wrath while you can say it while smiling smugly.

karens truly are something else 🤦🏻♀️
furry_anus_explosion [OP]8 points3y ago
i’m waiting for her to do it again and end up getting burnt off the hot water tap, only for me to get in trouble for not stopping her
taste19697 points3y ago
I mean if she only gets the 2 shots in it what’s even the issue ?? Just find out if she wants the room or to fill it up w hot water??? Am I misunderstanding
I mean she seems like a rude bitch but
snaileywhaley17 points3y ago
A lot of people order their brewed coffee or americano in the next size up cup. The usual reason is they want the room (to add extra cream or just so the hot beverage doesn't spill on them). Usually, if they want the extra space filled with something (like steamed cream or whipped cream), they request it. I would never ask someone who orders a tall americano in a grande cup if they wanted hot water all the way up, because that is an unusual request that dilutes the drink. The person who orders it should have explained what she wanted.

If she's on mobile, I can understand. I don't like my tea super strong, so in store I order tall tea in a grande with extra water. But when I tried that on mobile, there's no extra water button. Saying "no room" takes away that modification so the barista won't know. Doing grande with one teabag apparently prints "teabag" on the sticker so I usually end up with two teabags and confused baristas. The best way I can figure out is to specify "light room" instead of "no room" or to change my name on the app to "extra water".

i wish there was a water option for tea and americanos. i’ve been loving making my london fogs with all milk and no water, but i can’t mobile order it because there’s no water option :(
jenkoct124 points3y ago
No where else do I see this type of behavior. She went and used the hot water tap like that was her house. WTF?!
MatchingColors-8 points3y ago
She’s paying for the shots, not the water

I totally agree about her being rude and unreasonable, I’m just saying the price is related to the cost of the espresso, the maintenance on those machine, etc. but not really on the amount of hot water we put in (which we give away for free if people want hot water).
Think about this way: what if someone wanted less espresso in their grande americano? Would you still charge them for a grande?
Edit: So your saying the size up is for the room? Which they can then fill with the free cream/milk we provide but you *won’t* give them free water?!?!?!
