Does it get easier?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SirenGreenBean
Very new green bean. Learning bar etc. I feel like I’m so slow and the other baristas get frustrated with me. But at the same time I’m like ?? I JUST learned the basics, I don’t have anything memorized, and you throw me on bar *solo*. What do you expect???

And they’re fairly supportive and helpful about drinks, but also only had like 1-2 say “yeah it took me about a month to get it down, you’re doing fine.” The others just go “it’s fine” over and over again.

Also, the fucking cup sizes *will be* the bane of my entire existence. I’ve grabbed the wrong size a handful of times and I know better, yet still fuck up. The sizing going in opposite directions kill me the most. Just put the largest on the same end! It doesn’t hurt anything and makes everyone’s lives easier.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t actually mind the job, and it’s benefits outweigh the negatives, but fuck.

It gets easier. Just keep practicing and doing your best. I’ve been there for a few years and I still occasionally grab the wrong cup size. Soon enough, it will all click. I always try to tell my green beans about the mistakes I made when I was new. I want them to know that it’s okay to make mistakes, screw up, spill a keg of cold brew while you’re trying to carry it to the back because you didn’t realize how heavy it was. You’re human and it happens. The world won’t end. There is always a bright side, even if it’s just that you learned a one of the ways NOT to do something. Just learn from them and keep your sense of humor.

It usually takes around 6 months to feel confident in every position with minimal questions! Don’t sweat it it takes a lot of time to not feel overwhelmed

I’m like five months it and believe me, after a while it REALLY does get easier. I thought I would never get it, and was close to quitting but I eventually got it. But even people who’ve worked here for a long time still struggle with things.

Hey! I’m about two months in, and it gets better! I found myself making random ass drinks when we were dead, and looking over recipe cards a lot. But you can do it!!

I’ve been here three months and I still suck hard at bar because they always stick me in front of Drive. Which is fine, I like those positions I just have only been on bar for like two hours total.

Also there’s a lot of drama in my store that I’m 99% out of thanks to being new but makes me sigh because it’s all I hear and all I hear the other partners complaining to the SM about.
