short rant about orders with less than pleasant totals (self.starbucksbaristas)

tw: mention of nazism

so the other day i had a customer come in and order 5 grande pikes. this was fine (if a little annoying), but i found out upon ringing them in that this order totals to fourteen dollars and eighty-eight cents. idk how well known this is but 1488 is a nazi dogwhistle, with 14 being a reference to a white supremacist slogan called the "14 words", and 88 being code for "heil hitler" since h is the 8th letter of the alphabet. i got flustered and stammered through the rest of the transaction, and i'm like 99.99% sure that the guy wasn't intentionally placing an order to get that total to spit out (the customer was a person of color), and it's not like i'm superstitious or anything, but ew ew i hated having to say that. it was gross. i thought about giving him a discount but i'm still green and i was way way too flustered to decide the best way to do that. anyway eugh if you read this far thanks for listening lol

Just "accidentally " hit cup discount, changes total but negligibly

I actually had someone bang on the drive thru window to ask me to add a cake pop to her order so it wouldn’t be $6.66. Then she drove away, I guess cause she didn’t like that I went back to taking the order she’d rudely interrupted.
