SM/DM Meeting Advice??? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by zevic19
So hey everyone, I am coming up on my five month mark at Starbucks and I got Partner of the Quarter and a Barista Trainer promotion within the last month. I am having an overall great experience with the job and in the company and I think I've been doing great as a barista.

There's been brief mention between my SM and I about furthering myself in the company, aka a Shift position, but we're kinda saving it for my PDC later this month. But our DM is coming tomorrow morning and he asked me if I would be up for doing a coffee tasting and talking to the DM about myself and my place and goals with the company. Or something along the lines of that, he really just wants me to 'network', in his words.

I'm excited to be given the oppurtinity to leave a good impression and I am extroverted but I am just so nervous now. I've never met our district manager and he seems like a pretty serious guy, I was just wondering if anyone had either any coffee tasting tips and tips on talking with DMs to make yourself sound good but not too eager or greedy

Schmoozing with the DM and making a positive impression can make your SM much more comfortable with promoting you. SMs generally own the choice of who to hire, or promote to SSV within their store, though occasionally a DM can shoot someone down if they don't think they're ready yet.

The choice of coffee and food doesn't really matter that much, you can use the coffee passport for ideas. It's really just an ice breaker to get a conversation started. Be prepared to talk about the impact you're having on the store, things you're doing to coach other partners, and elevate your team.

The big thing about coffee tastings is that there's no wrong way to do them. Just pick your favorite coffee and pair it with something, whatever you'd like, and talk about why you like that coffee and why you picked the food. If you need a hand on pairings, just ask and I'll be happy to help. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that there is a reason that the DM is meeting with you and its because youre a rockstar! Be yourself. Treat them like you wpuld any other partner and if they ask a question dont bullshit them. Be honest and kind and you'll leave a good impression. Dont be nervous
