Can we not give away the shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by wooperquil
So since we just got that new swap shift thing through teamwork’s, I’ve tried to give up a shift, but when I selected the shift and the partner I wanted to give it to, it automatically game me one of her shifts in exchange even though I didn’t select it or want it in the first place. Can we not just give away shifts with this new platform?

I mean it is called shift swap, not shift donation...but it is kind of weird that they don’t let you pick the shift you want instead 🤷‍♀️

Yeah no, it forces you to swap shifts only. It’s easier scheduling wise, but it 90% of “swapped” shifts are someone picking up, rather than a true swap

I just did it and it let me choose which shift I wanted to swap it with. It’s not to just give away your shift. I would talk to the person it switched you with.

Hmm I was curious if anyone had used the shift swap yet—I haven’t used it yet but I think it’s more for just exchanging shifts instead of just coverage. You pick a shift you want to trade and they accept or deny. Just covering would be something different? Not saying you can’t give away a shift but don’t think the swap is what you use that for....Again; not sure but that’s what it looked like to me.

Can't you just talk it out with the partner you are swapping with and let them know, you d prefer them doing their own shift too. Im from Canada and I always take other partner shift (hate swapping cuz im pretty forgetful and i come during the swapped shift...). My manager is pretty chill abt it so not sure abt ur case...
