[after/during being a partner] How you felt mentally?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by autumntospring
I mean... how your boss/partner treated you there? Did you feel bad or something changed in your mind? You felt like crying in shifts? Today it happened to me. My boss treated me bad... Supposedly we had to use a white t-shirt but I haven’t (for an event in workplace). And after I explained why, she told me: “isn’t like you couldn’t, YOU DONT WANT TO. SAY IT.” ...I wanted to cry so baddd. A partner there saw that situation and because she finished her shift, she gave me her white t-shirt.
Just for a damn photo...
You can’t say it well? It makes me work in bad mood. I went to bathroom for change my clothes and cried.

I don’t know what to say, that’s terrible. Nobody should be forced to do something they don’t want to. There’s too much emotional labor involved with working at Starbucks. I’m much better mentally now that I no longer work there.

You’re right. And I’m glad you don’t longer work here. Hate things like “we’re a family” and then you don’t even have a living wage or you’ve to cup with the mistreatments... I hope I can leave soon. Thank you for read!

Of course! Happy to help.
And about the "we're a family" thing, my former store manager tried that and it was so uncomfortable to hear because I know that's their way of saying, "we're going to invade your personal space". I don't take kindly to that kind of message, it's like saying "we're going to use and abuse you, but still make you feel like you're not doing enough for 'your Starbucks family'.

You can call partner resources if your manager singles you out. If what you are wearing is within dress code you aren’t required to wear promotional t-shirts.

I was with my dress code ok (with a black t-shirt). Boss just wanted the t-shirt for a photo... If I call partner resources could I get problems with manager? .. can fire me?
