I’ve noticed a lot of people are very loyal to their preferred shifts. personally i LOVE closing and dread opening but some people are the complete opposite! what are you favorite times to work???

I love opening. As stressful as morning peak is we have about half an hour after finishing up our opening duties where things are chill and we can play around with recipe creations and coffee tastings. Also the morning crowd have some of my favourite customers, I like seeing the same people every morning, having ongoing conversations with them. At close I feel like it’s always different people, young teens coming In to get fraps and getting rowdy In the cafe. And I hate the feeling of actually being annoyed when people come In the last half hour before close because I’m just trying to clean and get all the stuff we need to do done. If it makes sense... I don’t feel... inconvenienced by customers in the morning... but that’s all I feel at close.

understandable! our store is the busiest in the state and we aren’t very close to any schools but near to city so our mornings are way too busy and our night are pretty much just regulars and almost baron so i guess we’re flipped from you guys!

My favorite coworkers work the morning shift most of the time so I love getting to work mornings with them

I worked only openings for the first year and a half at Starbucks and have just gotten into closings within the last 6 months or so. Still prefer mornings because I like the busy-ness and time seems to go by faster! Not to say I don’t enjoy my closing shifts, it’s just a completely different vibe/feel!

I used to close and have a bunch of mid shifts but then I got a taste of opening and that’s all I do now and I open most days and can’t imagine not doing it

I haven't closed in a while (might have one soon) but I honestly am coming to love running mids. I'm not a huge fan of deep cleaning (short attention span rn) but I do like reorganizing and bringing the store back to some semblance of clean. Also, as a SSV mids are a good time to train new baristas and get them experience on a new ish position so I like being there to support them.
Also! I get to see all my favorite morning coworkers generally and closing coworkers and touch base with everyone. Like a glue between two warring factions, lol, I kid I kid.
Opening and closing both have their pros and cons (same with mids cause its usually like 3 people on the floor so if we get hit it suckss) Opening moves fast because you spend a lot of time setting the store up and then peak hits and then in the recovery you leave. Closing moves slow but you get more time to talk with partners and customers and play and deep deep clean the store.
Edit: But my favorite shift out of any possible is 4:30-10a, translated to Open-and hour after peak. Time ZOOMS by and then you get the whole day to yourself.

My favorite shift is 7-3:30 without a doubt but I also LOVE closing so much. I rarely do it now unless I pick up a shift which is pretty annoying. I just love stocking and prepping the morning for opening. That being said, I enjoy opening as well. If I’m on in the morning, just throw me on bar for rush and all is good but as a close, I better be on customer support. Let me clock in and start closing the store

Green bean here and I've only worked closing and mids. I like how fast mids go by but the closing crew and the process of closing is really nice

When I first started I worked some afternoon and evening shifts which I hated but bc of my schedule now I only work mornings and I can’t imagine anything different. Even tho it requires getting up super early it usually goes by fast and I like our morning regulars

I don’t mind opening but I’m a green bean and dread bar during rush, but love DTO/DTR or food/front. Mid is what I’ll be working cause working parent.
Haven’t closed yet.

depends on the customers lol. the morning shift has the regulars i get attached to but the stress of the morning rush. plus you get to set the store up for success for the rest of the day. the night shift has extremely needy customers but i get to make the store sparkle and shine. I just switched from mornings to mids/closes because i have a long commute but there is something about opening that i miss...
