Let’s discuss “standard” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by okmegg
I wanna have a lil community chat about something that happened at work last week! Someone comes through the drive & orders a venti blonde almond milk honey flat white with 2 emperor’s cloud tea bags on the side. I was a little befuddled, how would you personally ring this in? At my store, I assumed standard would be to charge for a grande hot tea. I didn’t want to deal with it, or ya know say the wrong thing, which was great because before I could even respond, my shift quickly took over...she starts in with her “at the other place they blah blah blah” shit and ultimately my shift just says okay...it gets weird

The customer rolls up to the window, I notice her passenger, a double digit year partner and old manager! I was really confused because of the context but ultimately, I didn’t care enough to get into it. I greeted them both and asked for the passenger’s partner numbers, like normal! The driver then says “MY partner numbers are xxxxxx I’m an 8 year partner I’m a supervisor at my store blah blah blah” this that and the other, basically trying to boast to me why she should only be charged 40 extra cents for her tea bags, this shit was all of a sudden such an issue and I was shooketh. My shift that dealt with her in the first place thought she was a customer popping off at me so he went to diffuse the situation and they literally just sat arguing over standard, and who’s been with the company longer hahaha anyway,

My question(s) to you...
Would you (as a partner) even do this at any store except your own?
Would your manager expect you to ring this as a hot tea?
Do you not give a flying fuck?

Could not give less of a fuck if I’m “over charged” 40¢....it’s 40¢...if that is a big deal to you, you should probably be at a second or third job instead of bitching about your extra ass drink. Sounds like she’s entitled as fuck and I’m sure a nightmare to work under.

Quick answer: no, my fucks don't fly for this annoying shit anymore.
Longer answer: adding tea bags to a non-tea beverage is not a thing hence there is no real standard for it (as far as I know). Personally I'd just get the bitch her drink and just add the tea bags. If the company allows those exploits in their system why should I care?
Side note: other partners are typically some of the worst customers, sorry you dealt with this bullshit.

There should be an “add tea bag” option that you could use for the extra bags with a drink .. this is what we do when people order refreshers and stuff like that with tea bags, that’s probably what they meant about the 40 cent charge. Idk about the morality of this bc it’s not going in the drink but they aren’t ordering a hot tea so idk

Interestingly enough, when I asked my manager I guess there was actually some sort of forum post on partner hub, stating that we cannot sell give extra tea bags on the side! That if they order an extra bag, it must go in the drink, and then let them know to find it at retail locations instead! So random but here’s some new info

What is the (official) ruling with one tea bag in and one on the side for grande and venti? It’s a thing in my district because we were told not to charge for a tall tea in a venti cup if they only want one bag and I think that’s dumb because for myself personally and many others who come through the store there’s no reason for a grande or venti to need two tea bags lol

Should have got her partner info and turned her into the dm for causing a hostile work environment as a customer

I would probably have just charged for a tall then used the personal cup discount to make it a small upcharge. But also idk if there is any real standard for this so you have to go with your best guess. If I was the partner ordering, however, I'd just let you ring it in whatever way. If the only difference is .40, why does it matter.

I had this rude woman come through recently and order her Frappuccinos in a nasty tone, getting angry because DTO asked her to repeat herself. And she even said “is it happy hour right Now?” And we told her no as it was a MONDAY. Well, lo and behold, she arrives at the window, acting all fake peachy saying she’s got partner numbers! (254xxxx) and then tells the DT person “I CHOSE to work at a store without a drive thru because I hate having to try to hear them over the speaker like when it rains and stuff” and I’m like “oh lord she did not say that after giving the DTO attitude”. She then holds up the line telling a story about how she doesn’t have to work but chooses to work and her kids love the free drinks at her store and didn’t understand that when I kept saying “OK OK OK UH HUH YUP MHM” that I was trying to move her along.

Gooooddd see that’s so annoying! If you’re a partner, you know how stupid you sound right!?! Like bruuuhhhh why you even worried about happy hour anyway!!! and to be a bitch from the get go, ugh uncool
