I am pondering (self.starbucksbaristas)

Not sure who this applies to but as i know in the UK its illegal for under 18’s to purchase a energy drink (e.g. Monster, Redbull and others alike) so why is it that young kids can come into the store and buy the strongest coffee?

An example that happened literally a few days ago:
A girl that easily looked 12/13 ordered a cold brew, i had to ask her to repeat the order as i was taken back a little and she gulped that thing down!

Im just wanting to know peoples opinions on this.

I had no idea this was illegal in the U.K. Here in the states teenagers gulp them down daily in high school. Makes sense though because I remember a few years back of social panic because a teenager OD'd on one.

It's just ironic. At that point they'd may as well legalize energy drinks, or for the other way around you'll get to start ID-ing kids who walk into Starbucks

If the kid is 12 or less, I make it creme-based w/out asking. I think a lot of people don't know frappucinos have caffeine.

maybe not, we tend to ask and they go for the coffee, it just baffles me

Maybe it’s because I’m Latino but I’ve been drinking coffee since elementary school and now I’m 20 and I just drink cold brew/iced coffee/iced americanos black or an iced blonde latte. I guess for us coffee is just part of our culture. But other than that I guess if the parents are with them and they’re okay with it I’ll make it. However I would not let my kids drink energy where the caffeine is mostly just added and not naturally there.

It must be! My dad drinks espresso by itself and NEVER adds anything to his coffee. Many of our Latino male customers get espresso shots by themselves or americanos or black coffee

i salute you for being able to drink cold brew, i love the taste but it gives me the shakes and tight chest, true about maybe its just a cultural thing though

I think maybe because im a bigger person my body can handle it but who knows I think caffeine effects people different

To me I hate when parents let their kids who are 6yes and older get damn iced caramel macchiatos add shot or a java chip frap I’m like uhh do you know that has caffeine uhh I always ask if they want it cream base they give me this surprise 👀

i usually hit the parents ordering with a “with or without coffee” and if the kid is insistent on coffee they sorta whisper “make it decaf”. always makes me laugh a little.
