Former Partner Coming Back (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by skankbird
Hey all. I'm a former partner. I left in 2003 after getting an engineering internship. I've been in engineering for almost 17 years and I'm planning on taking a hiatus to help get husband's tech company up and running over the next two years. There's a few stores within biking/bus/long walking distance of my house and I'm thinking about coming back for the health insurance. It's the number one reason I've supported Starbucks all these years.

I also did enjoy my time as a partner. Overall it was a good experience. I know it's changed a lot since 2002 but I'm focused on the health insurance and being able to work less than 40 hours a week. Will I have an issue getting hired? Will someone look at my application and think I'm insane?

I plan on coming back as a barista but I left as a shift lead and would want to work back into that position.

Any store would be insane not to hire back a former partner, especially one as hard working as you obviously are. Its probably a perfect part time job honestly. It cant get too stressful at twenty hours even if you’re store is high volume or generally un fun. Most of your check will go right back into your insurance premium but that sounds fine to you.

How much are insurance premiums for two adults? I'm hoping to work 32 hours a week.

I'm around 40/paycheck just for me. That's prob not helpful.
But, wanted to say my first store was in 2002 and I left in 2004, got rehired in 2016. A) kept my number which was bragging rights. B) had no prob being rehired. Lots of stuff is diff now, but if you have a great team, it's worth it

That helps. I can just double it for my spouse. It gives me a ballpark.

I hope I can have my old 6 digit number, too!

Ah, I assumed you'd be closer to 20. My coworkers who just work for the insurance are in the 20-25 range largely, and they have told me most of their checks go to their premiums, but they buy a lot of coverage. Im on parents for another year

What hourly rate did you hire in at?

In 2016 I think 9.5? But w courtesy of living adjustments and raises, I'm closer to the barista cap now
