I had such an awful shift. In fact it's been a string of awful shifts in a row and I'm tired. I started my shift today during a rush and none of the SSV's could tell me where to go, so I just slotted myself in to double bar, hop on CS, wherever I would be needed. Then I was yelled at for not doing what I was told, even though the SSV in charge told me to wait a sec while she figured the floor. I could go on but long story short, Starbucks breaks you. I've been here for a year and a half and I'm so unappreciated, constantly doing all the hard work while the new green beans get to stand around and fool on bar. I'm so tired of this job. Customers are awful. How do terrible human beings such as our DT customers exist? Just because they sit in their car and hide behind a speaker box doesn't give them any permission to be dickheads. I'm so tired you guys. Sorry for the downer post.

You are not alone.

Thank you 💛

Same thing happens to me consistently. There’s so much to do when you clock on during rush, so I feel totally useless just standing around waiting for a long ass time till the shift figures out where to put me😩
sunshine455 [OP]12 points3y ago
I get yelled at for standing around doing nothing while I wait, and I get yelled at for putting myself somewhere I'm clearly needed
MeanGreenBeanOnBar12 points3y ago
Sounds like you need to promote yourself to customer 🥳 (It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done ✅)

My goal is to leave after my graduate, which isn't too far away so I just gotta hold on for a bit. But when I do I bet it'll be the most amazing feeling.

Dude seriously tho. I got home today and decided to build Starbucks in Minecraft, made two different saves of the world, then I burned down the store in one and filled the store with tnt in the other. It was so satisfying to see Starbucks get destroyed!
sharkiemd3 points3y ago
this is unironically a wonderful idea to cope with work stress for me... gonna do that when i get home from school today!

Another fun way to blow of some steam is make a super flat world and make several layers of the ground tnt and just light a couple blocks of it it will just keep going blowing up and you can even have villages spawn on top of the tnt and blow them up in the process
sunshine455 [OP]2 points3y ago
That sounds awesome dude. We can only dream

You are not alone. Almost been her 5 years now. I'm stuck until I figure out what else I could be good at.
s_ingramsm1 points3y ago
Not sure what your situation is, but have you considered bartending? I hear if you get a good gig you can make a TON of money, and if you’re good on bar it would be very easy to learn the drinks.
amorbaleine1 points3y ago
Thats a thought! I have a baby (well toddler now) so my availability is consistent yet limited. Haha. But that's not a bad idea. 💡

I’m on the same boat as you. Been working for this company for a little over a year and it’s only gotten worse since we got a new manager. They claim we’re supposed to be on one position for 2 hours at most and then we should be swapped to another position to prevent burnout but I’ve been forced to be on bar for the majority of my shift many times now. Starbucks cares more about the money than the wellbeing of their workers, and the health insurance is a cheap excuse at paying us less than $15/hr.

I OVERstand you. You're not alone. 💚

Aha, love what you did there 💛

I would recommend pondering the idea of transferring if you feel like this consistently. It’s well worth it to drive a little further to be in a better environment.
sunshine455 [OP]1 points3y ago
I've definitely been thinking about it. Just trying to decide if I want a cafe only or another cafe and DT store.
JonFawkes31 points3y ago
Having worked both; each have their ups and downs. I’ve worked at 3 different cafe stores before working the DT I’m at now. I say try a cafe. You’ll never know otherwise.
sunshine455 [OP]1 points3y ago
A ton of people say that you get bored really quickly at a cafe store, and that they can't handle a rush because they're not used to it. Or like ovens are done by noon and you'll be standing there twiddling your thumbs. I don't want to transfer to a store and feel like I'll have to transfer again
JonFawkes31 points3y ago
Well I was just saying do it so you don’t ever wonder. End of the day you gotta do what you want to do. You were the one that mentioned cafes to begin with. If this is truly how you feel I don’t know why you questioned the idea of a cafe to begin with.
BlazedCollegeKids1 points3y ago
Cafe stores are constantly under staffed and SSVs constantly slack off neither is a good option
tragicalyhappy2 points3y ago
4 years in, indeed is always on my phone. But not too many better options for my skill set. I'm pretty numb at this point. I feel ya....(ironically)

As a newish (3 months) SSV, hearing things like this makes me so upset. If I didn’t plan ahead enough to know where to station my baristas and they filled in where needed until I figured it out, I’d thank them for helping out and being flexible. I can’t imagine yelling at someone for supporting the team while I figure out something I should’ve had planned already? I know it probably doesn’t help much, but just know that this SSV definitely appreciates you and would love to have you at my store!
sunshine455 [OP]2 points3y ago
Thanks for saying that, I'm sure your baristas are lucky to have you! Keep up the good work :)

Call up some partner contact center. You boss should be testing you as good as barista treat customers. To inspire and nurture the human spirit, if management is not following our goals they need to be let go.
sunshine455 [OP]2 points3y ago
My manager and assistant manager is more concerned about customer connections right now, not really caring about how partners treat each other. Though I find it hard to give a +2 customer connection when the SSV's and management treats us like trash
