How to be more friendly? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by radude4411
Anyone have any advice on how to interact with an evening crew? I really like the morning partners, but every time i work an evening shift i feel like they either aren’t as nice or that they don’t like me. I dont know maybe everyone is just to tired to be friendly?

Hi. An evening SSV here. I came into my shift with lots on my mind: accessing ‘damage’ from mornings, what’s missing, what’s running out, who still needs breaks, who’s leaving....For the first at least an hour into me coming in, I’ll be focusing on how to get the shift started right so we can leave with a clean store and on time. If I’m quiet, that just means I’m focusing.

As someone who has primarily closed for the past 2 and half years of being a partner, I can tell you it is more than likely not personal.

First and foremost, don't assume that it's the people you're working with. Depending how the morning and mid went, closing can be either smooth sailing or a hectic nightmare. As a closer, I've trained myself to have the mindset of the latter.

Depending on how the day has gone, there's more than likely a hundred different things going on all at the same time.

Best advice would just be assume positive intent as we have to for customers.

Kind of a mind trick, but if you convince yourself that people already like you, you'll act more confident and friendly towards them.

I feel like every store is different but like idk, maybe talk about school if it's a younger crew? Maybe just try and open up and find out their interests?
