When I first read this, I read it in more of an ominous “we’re going to tip you over if you don’t tip us money” sort of way.
I prefer it that way.

I thought of it as a jab at those pesky penny-pinchers. 😂

I love the passive aggressiveness of this and it makes me want to tip more because of it. So it’s doing its job! I love it!
shorty60498 points3y ago
I don't respond well to passive-aggressiveness so I think this one would make me LESS likely to tip...
PhenomenalPhoenix2 points3y ago
For me it depends on the scenario. In this scenario I’m proud of the baristas for passive aggressively asking for what they deserve. Whereas if someone is being passive aggressive about me doing something or not doing something then I’m going to double down in what I’m doing or not doing just to spite that person

I'm a bit nervous to say this in here, but I'm kind of split on whether tipping at starbucks should be like a customary thing... I used to work at subway which I'd personally see as a somewhat similar job... Every sandwich was effectively a custom order , you put all the toppings on by hand, we also baked the bread , baked cookies, prepared sliced veggies, etc. and very rarely got tips. I'm not sure what the pay is at starbucks, but I'd imagine its similar to what we made at subway (we didn't get benefits though) and it kind of feels like a slippery slope with tipping. It started with paying restaurant staff tips because their pay was below minimum wage , now we're expected to tip at places like starbucks and Panera even though employees there make more (because tipping isn't customary so the baseline pay is higher). I kind of worry that we might be heading in a direction where customers are expected to make up for what the employers are lacking when it comes to paying service workers.

You definitely have a good point. Companies should be paying their workers a living wage. I personally get $10 an hour but I have only been getting 10-20 hours a week. So that’s not much to live on. But also when I said what they deserve, I more meant because while there are a lot of good customers there are also a lot of horrible who act like each and every barista is their personal doormat

I tip at Starbucks ever since learning their management is not required to provide them x hrs/week they signed on for.
That makes it impossible to get a second/third job/school without heavy politics play.
What the fuck.

I get what you are saying, and benefits do slightly make up for being minimum wage with almost no tips, but not enough in my opinion.

You’ve heard of waitstaff, yeah?
Tipping is the archaism that lets them pay rent because they are paid minimum and far below it for a skilled position.

we're not allowed to decorate our tip jars :-(
donalson1 points3y ago
>d (the name of the bo
same... although partners will from time to time, next time our DM or area manager comes in and notices it'll be removed I'm sure... but just the words TIP written on the jar helps a lot...

Saaame. It’s so sad 😭
raychelelaina7 points3y ago
Missed opportunity to call the ship Pequod (the name of the boat in Moby Dick, since ‘Starbucks’ comes from that tale)

I would tip if it were about cows instead of boats.
whatismineisyours5 points3y ago

regzm4 points3y ago

MSperduti3 points3y ago
Yikes.
RegularFrappuccino2 points3y ago
I don’t think we are allowed to do this sadly
donalson1 points3y ago
it's not "sirens eye"... so technically no... but for many it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...
mcr04141 points3y ago
We use to do fun stuff on the tip jars and then our regional came in and was furious. I’m jealous.
priyasingh251 points3y ago
i would change it to “boats can tip so, can you?”
verkruuze-13 points3y ago
I'm sorry, I think it is rude. No one has to tip...
