Nicely tell them that they paid for a grande amount and if they want it filled to the top it'll have to be in a grande cup.

True, I just worry about them getting snippy with me (which this customers tone was getting that way). But that makes sense to do.
star_pants12 points3y ago
Oh no what are they going to do? Complain that you gave them exactly what they paid for? /s
Next time just don't even ask and leave the room if you're concerned about that. They can get snippy all they want but at the end of the day they can pay less to go get gas station coffee if that's what they want

Hey, I getcha. I wish I wasn’t concerned about their attitude, but I’m still new and just overly cautious. Point taken, though. 👍🏼

pour pike into a grande, then transfer it to a venti and just take note of how much space is left at the top for next time. I think it’s about an inch.
I’m not saying do this every time bc waste, just once (or twice) so you can see what it’s supposed to look like.
hexedwitch6 points3y ago
So would you suggest skipping asking if they want the room and just make it as a grande? That’s what I’ve seen my coworkers do for frappes with the same situation.
angrybreadsticks11 points3y ago
if they want a smaller size drink in a bigger cup, it’s because they want extra room and only want to pay for the coffee they actually receive. you don’t need to ask about leaving room.
if they don’t actually want the room, then they’re either not thinking or they’re trying to (unfairly) pay 25 cents less for coffee.
TheHype20201 points3y ago
Yes, because plenty will say to “go all the way” and really just mean a very full grande amount in the venti cup because its a confusing question to ask when the whole point of the order is to get as much coffee and as much extra room as possible
hexedwitch1 points3y ago
That’s unfortunately not what everyone wants (as I’ve realized). But sure, I’ll cut the question out entirely.
TheHype20201 points3y ago
Im sure theres a select few but this is a popular order at my store and they all really want that extra room and would be upset if you gave them too much coffee so Im having trouble believing this is something more than one in one thousand people are actually attempting.

i had a man come in the other morning who handed me a grande-equivalent personal cup and said "hi the_lady_flame, i need a pike" so i ring in a grande pike and he goes "no no no, the_lady_flame, charge me for a short. who would pay that much for a coffee? fill it up to the top though. jeez, the_lady_flame, i'm here every morning" and i was just. too tired and flustered by him using my name so much in that way karens do to flex on you to argue or get my shift or anything, so i just went along, but ugh i felt so taken advantage of. especially because i'm still new so he was acting like i should've known him and what he wanted >:( i'll do anything for my nice regulars but don't talk to me like that dude!!! you don't get to demand free coffee.
silversungoddess1 points3y ago
Unless it’s a cold beverage I don’t ask anything. I just leave the room. If it’s a cold beverage I ask if they want room or extra ice. Otherwise I just fill it to the size they paid for (around the eyes of the siren is a size lower)
