You don’t need a degree. Disclaimer: I’m not a manager. But my first SM came over from managing a Whole Foods. Second SM was a career Starbucks person. Third worked all the way from being hired at a Target Starbucks to managing a corporate store. My SM now has started as a barista. Generally, being an internal hire and promoted up gains favors with fellow partners.
