Can you make it extra hot??(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by I_play_nose_flute
So, some rude lady and her friend came into my store the other day and ordered an EXTRA HOT americano (no manners used in the ordering haha)
When I explained that an americano can only be so hot due to, well, science I suppose, she started arguing with me saying that the other barista made it extra hot (?).
I tried to politely explain (in easy to understand words) about the boiling temperature of water but she wasn't having it. I kinda hoped it would click in her head but it didn't. I suggested extra hot milk too but that wasn't good enough, she wanted it extra hot for when she added cold milk.
I hope she burnt her mouth

I always just say, "okay," and make it exactly the same way. Nobody's complained yet.

I especially do this when anyone asks for a grande latte with extra milk

regular americano: tiny taps by the bars
xhot americano: big tap by the brewer

Lmao I have an old man who does this and I just go "be careful it's really hot!!" When I hand it out to him... even tho it's no hotter than normal. Works like a charm.

In these moments there is only two options:
* Say “okay” and just give them a standard americano. Let the placebo effect do the rest.
* Use the hot water tap at the brewer. Pull some water into an empty cup, first. Basically, flushing the line.
The water will be at its absolute hottest point.

How do you even do an extra hot Americano without steamed milk? Isn't it already extra hot because of the 200 degree water? Some people just don't get it lmao

I was asked by my manager once to steam the water for an extra hot Americano. The steaming wand turned on for like a second and then promptly shut off cause... you know.... that’s already as hot as it goes??

That could potentially make us liable because there's a reason it only goes up to 200°. Boiling water can cause 2nd degree burns
