I've been soloing drive through peak the last couple days, so I feel this deeply. I have a good flow that I can maintain when we're busiest: I greet window and take payment, greet drive box, handoff or connect with window, input order and ask clarifying questions, handoff/connect, give total, finish with window. It took me longer to type that than it does for it to happen.

The thing that drives *me* crazy is when my shift will jump on the headset when I'm asking a clarifying question and talk over the customer so I have to ask *again* what they said. This shift gets impatient with me over the stupidest things, which I don't understand. She treats me like I'm worthless, which is bullshit, because I ran peak drive solo and kept my drive time to 44 seconds on average.

>talk over the customer so I have to ask again what they said.

I have literally yelled at someone who did this multiple times one day. "TURN OFF YOUR HEADSET WHILE THERE IS SOMEONE IN DRIVE!" and they kind of looked at me like 'oh god mom is mad' because I'm twice their age. And then I get passive aggressive sometimes "I'm so sorry, it's really loud in here. Could you repeat that one last time" Usually they can hear the desperation in your voice and sometimes they'll take pity on you and be like 'you're all good!' but maybe that's just midwestern hospitality in some people.

I later apologized to the partner for snapping at them. They apologized too because they didn't realize what was happening or something like that.

Most often it's the shift angrily telling me what the customer is trying to say. Which is twice as annoying because I can't understand either of them then.

ohh yes I always tell the DTO partner when I hear it because they usually look around hoping that someone else heard it. During Peak though I am totally useless when it comes to that information because all I hear in my head is the Charlie Brown Teacher screaming "DRINKS! MAKE THE DRINKS!"

I feel this so deeply!!!!!! With bar too. I have a shift who will PULL A DRINK FROM MY SEQUENCE. It completely fucks me up. Like I have the milk and shot going for one drink, am pouring the milk for the second cup, and I look to see he’s grabbed the cup from me and started making the drink. I’ve even had the shot ready to be poured into the cup to find him walking away with it. What the fuck, leave me alone. If you want to help, grab another ticket or do the 8769439 Frappuccino’s that are about to pop through so I can stay with the hot drinks for a minute. Holy sweet baby lord.

Edit: have been with Starbucks for 5 months and would consider myself a moderately well paced bar person. Doesn’t stop more seasoned partners from butting in.

Been with sbux 15 years and this aggravates me the most. Don't touch my stickers!!!! I have a method. You can pull frappuccinos and teas. Or start prepping cold foam. Don't touch the hot drinks. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

What I do is grab the next sticker in my sequence and put it on my wrist (you can use your apron or arm, wherever) so no one else starts making it.

I’ve started doing that to! I’m protecting them lol

I have a girl that does this at my store. Honestly I dont care if someone else takes a new order while I'm doing window for the first. But for the love of god punch the order in at least.

It doesn’t ever really go away. I have been with Starbucks for over a year now and solo quite often(even during peaks) and partners will still do it, it is definitely always good intentioned though.
cozysocks_ 5 points 3y ago
Oh man I had a shift who did that all the time and it was so so frustrating

I work at a Tarbucks so we don’t have a drive thru but it also means we don’t have a label maker. My team has to write out every cup by hand and certain Baristas will try to take cups mid order out of their hands because it takes green beans longer to take orders. I don’t understand why at least co-workers can’t be patient while others are learning and I’m sorry that happens to you.
drubhub 1 points 3y ago
Does your Tarbux accept mobile orders?
OkiKumi 1 points 3y ago
No thankfully, they’re testing in a few stores around the country but my DM told me we won’t be seeing them anytime soon.

I HATED THIS WHEN I FIRST STARTED!!!!! i almost cried one shift because of this but now drive is my best position. it just takes practice
Alefur 3 points 3y ago
When I was getting used to the pace of Starbucks other partners would do this to me and it aggravated me so much because they would either not put in the order so I'd have to ask what it was because I wasn't paying attention to it and spend more time doing that, or they'd tell me to not make them wait and it's like. Bruh. I'm new. Chill. It's a rough start
atvlouis 2 points 3y ago
I mean I’ve been working there for a while and people do that to me still, don’t take it as them being upset or mad you didn’t take the order. They should understand that the customer at the window is more important in my opinion
Fadelox 2 points 3y ago
For sure I know they are just trying to avoid some impatient butthole person being rude and starting some bullshit which I can fully appreciate. But ya I feel like sometimes I will be like “thanks for your patience!” And the customer is like ??? Bc its literally only been 10 seconds we made them wait.
atvlouis 2 points 3y ago
Same, I think it’s so funny when like right away we’re like ok wait over

Tell the person causing you problems, instead of us, promise it will be way more effective
bompwa 1 points 3y ago
I think the thing is that one skill is the flow, another skill is listening to the order while finishing a connection with the customer at the window, learning to listen twice, but if they get the next car, is that a big issue alone? Or is it more that you can't listen to the order and connect?
