Hi all, I'm officially going to put in my 2 weeks notice for the Bucks tomorrow during my shift to my SM. Tomorrow isn't a completely random choice however, because our DM is visiting the store. We have a brand new DM (TL;DR the old DM would always back up my terrible SM or look the other way when she fired people or did messed up things, but this new DM actually started as a barista and is younger and seems much nicer) This DM also knows and likes me because she was actually on a visit on my first day of training and she thought the green bean was v cute and gave helpful advice blah blah blah.
Whenever the old DM (or anyone in the hierarchy) would come to my store my SM would go completely 180 and pretend to be a good boss and do a good job etc etc. She would also threaten people if they spoke to the DM about how she actually is as well. So basically I know if I put my 2 weeks in in front of the new DM that she will likely ask to speak to me alone and at that point I can spill the tea on my SM without having my job threatened, or harming any of my fabulous coworkers.
Is this a horrible idea, or a gentle and brilliant way to stick it to my SM??

UPDATE: Bad news friends, the DM said her dog was sick and cancelled our store visit. Seeing as I am trying to put in my notice before the new schedule is posted, I had to just give it to my SM. Hopefully I can figure out a way to talk to our DM at some point regardless of whether or not I'm still employed.
If anyone is curious my SM was incredulous. She asked me 3 times if I was kidding then asked why, to which I said, "I've found another opportunity that pays much better" and it's not like Starbucks is handing out raises anytime soon. She proceeded to throw my handwritten note (and a rather kind one at that all things considered) into the trash can right in front of me, and stormed out the back door and left for the day when I went back up front.
This is the beginning of the end for my store as the terrible SM keeps driving people away, and with me leaving there'll be only 15 employees, like 3 of which only work weekends. I'm sad because I would actually die for my fellow baristas, but my SM and frankly the corporation as a whole are running off many of the employees that make it great. I hope they will go back to prioritizing their "partners" one day. I wish they didnt hold their shitty benefits over us when people demand fair treatment. Keep fighting the good fight my fellow coffee comrades, I promise to always tip well after my promotion to customer if I'm ever in another Bucks.

Doesn’t your store have the DM’s card? Our store has ours on display up front in the cafe

Not really sure why you don't just contact your DM and talk to her. The problem with handing in your notice while your DM is visiting your store is it gives your SM a direct opportunity to give her input before you do...

Agreed. There’s also a good chance OP’s two weeks notice doesn’t come up during the visit or there’s no time to sit and talk with OP. Emails to DMs or calls to ethics and compliance are much more effective.

Depends on if you plan on using this SM as a reference for a future job. I’m guessing not.
