Should I call in? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rebeccyuh
I’ve been working at Starbucks for about a month now, and the first time I had to take off was for this past Friday and Saturday due to a school related event. I could tell my manager was a bit angry at me for not taking off sooner, but she said I needed it to get it covered. I did. Anyway, for the past 2-3 days, my throat has been hurting like hell, and I have white spots on one of my tonsils. Today I went to the doctor and found out I have mono. The doctor said I should take a few days off work, so I did get an excuse. I’m still debating on whether I should still go in or not, because I’m scared and anxious of my manager thinking I’m unreliable, and other shifts talking shit about me. This week I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. I just need advice pls.

Imagine how much madder your partners would be if some of them got mono because you showed up to work still contagious.
Take off, mono is no joke.

Mono is SO SO SO CONTAGIOUS. Call in or give it to youre ENTIRE store? Call in.

Never work with those symptoms OR with a new diagnosis of mono!! Get well soon!

i would definitely stay home, at least for the first few days! you definitely don’t want to get anybody else sick that could cause even more call offs, that’s our store’s philosophy. best to stay home and get better than to risk others, especially customers, getting sick!!

Use sick time

They definitely haven't earn any/enough sick time in a month.

Doctor here. Call in sick. Don't worry about what your manager thinks. You need to look out for yourself at all times. Feel better!

Please take time off! It would be counter-productive to try and work, only to make others sick too.

Try to find coverage if you can but you should not go in sick. If your sm and ssvs get mad ita because they're shitty leaders and dont deserve their positions. We can change that by unionizing $1

I’m looking at the schedule and trying to find someone to cover my shift, but the only people who don’t work tomorrow are busy. I feel so guilty leaving them empty handed.

Going to work when you have a *doctor’s note for a communicable disease* would endanger your coworkers and your customers. Additionally, it severely violates health code.

Do ***not*** go in.

As long as you have documentation-which it sounds like you do, they have no right to be upset with you.
No one deliberately plans to catch mono. It would be a lot worse if you went in and caused your team to get ill, that would create real problems. Mono is highly contagious! Stay home.
