hey y’all i’m preparing for barista championships and the only thing i’m having struggle with is discussing the quality of a flat white and what makes it a good flat white. anything will help :D

edit: also, why do you use ristretto shots in a flat white

I’d say a major part of it is the texture of the foam. If you have bad foam then I feel like it’s not even a flat white

a flat white is made first with whole milk steamed to achieve microfoam, making the body of the drink very nice and creamy. Ristretto shots are pulled with less water, making for a ‘sweeter’ espresso shot. Combined, they bring the best of steamed milk and espresso shots. Also, good luck!
