Former partner looking to return after 10+ years (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ACleverDoggo
It's been well over a decade since I worked for Starbucks (my last day with a company owned store was in 2008, though I worked at a licensed seller for a few months in 2011), and I'm looking at taking up a part time position at my local Bux.

I still remember my partner number, but I realize a LOT has changed in the last dozen or so years. I left shortly after Schultz returned to the company - before we got hot food, the mobile app, the Teavana acquisition, and a LOT of new terminology I'm seeing here in the subreddit.

What advice would y'all give to a returning partner who's been away so long, especially if I haven't been a steady customer in the meantime? If you've been with the company all this time, what would you say have been the biggest adjustments to make?

Any input is helpful! If I get and nail the interview, I'll *definitely* be picking up a notebook for re-training.

Treat the coming back experience like you're a green bean. The company has changed a lot, so go into it like you've not learned old standards; that should make it easier to remember the standards that differ from those of the past. Don't be afraid if you are overwhelmed for a while. There's a lot to take in, lots of new recipes, and plenty of immersive learning

I wish you the best of luck

Honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d thought it be. It was 11 years for me. Most stuff is the same, but the order we make drinks is different, as are frap recipes. It used to be we would steam as much milk as we could for multiple drinks at a time while getting our strips ready but not it’s one drink at a time, every time. It took some getting used to and lots of practice but the underlying skills are the same and you should pick it up in no time.

Mobile orders can be super stressful since you can be done with drinks and then six more just pop out of thin air, but it’s all manageable and your experience will really help you get back in the flow of things quickly :)
