my dt times are going down due to hygeine...(self.starbucksbaristas)

my family and myself has a history of respiratory disease, and i've always been a bit anal about hand washing. recently (initially b/c of flu season getting worse, plus covid-19 hype) i've been washing hands between handling customer's money and making drinks. when i'm stationed at the window, this is no big deal, but when i'm running the floor i REALLY slow down. i just can't in good conscience handle dirty money and then handle equipment that will make multiple drinks.
(i also wash after every (cough) medicine (cough cough) ball (cough, sniffle) that people order with a raspy voice)
some of my shifts are sympathetic, and are even advising other partners to take similar precautions, while others tell me to prioritize dt times b/c risk is minimal.
so, i guess my question is: are other people out there taking extra precautions in order to not get sick/not get others sick? or am i getting neurotic to the point of needing a different job?

Safety is more important than speed

The same company that makes the Sani-Wipes (red pack) they also make a pack called Sani-Hands that are food safe and safe for hands. They kill germs, are safe to use before eating/drinking, and they’re moisturizing. I wonder if you could ask your ASM to look into ordering those? Then you could quickly wipe your hands with those wipes after every incident you mentioned. Plus, it would be faster than soap/water and less drying for you skin (my hands get SO dry from constant washing 😭). Just a thought. And yes, I know hand washing is preferred and probably better. But the wipes could be a nice second choice option to have available too.

That's an excellent idea! I'll mention it to my manager. I'd love to have a solution that protects my health AND my hands AND my dt times. 😭

Our store has a hand-washing timer that’s set to go off every 30 minutes. Then we all harass (joking) each other to wash our hands. I wish there was a food-safe antibacterial and moisturizer that we could use.

I personally don't blame you. You can never be too careful in my opinion.

I see where your coming from, but if times are an issue I'd say use disinfectant wipes or something. My store has packs of them we use to wipe out hoppers I'm sure they wouldn't mine u using one
