currently working someone else’s 6 hour shift masked in teamwork’s as a 5 hour 55 minute shift which means no lunch. for the past two hours my manager had made me be on bar by myself during happy hour/ evening rush hour and JUST GOT MAD AT ME that wait times were more than 6 minutes. this is in humane. anyways i gotta go i love you all bye.

Wow that’s crazy. Honestly don’t even worry about times until they’re at 10 mins. This job is not worth getting stressed over.

Lol our times can hit 20+ if we’re really busy, and that’s even with double bar + cold bar. We get hit *hard*.

Dude same here and that's even when we have our veterans beasting on bar! Cafe, drive thru mobile and delivery, 4 channels of orders it gets rough. I'm honestly always so impressed with my coworkers who have great barista skills.

I’m really lucky my store doesn’t deal with any kind of delivery service. They’ve been playing with running functionally a 3 partner play during our afternoon rush and first time I barred for that I wanted to cry. If we had to also coordinate delivery orders/deal with the extra demand I think I’d walk out.

Honestly delivery isnt thaaat bad but it's just another added element to deal with at times which can be annoying. Setting up the bag and holder can take away from real tasks during rushes.

Our times this Happy Hour hit 25+ mins and that’s with three seasoned, veteran baristas. Our register was even warning people that wait times were close to 30 mins prior to ordering. The secret must be out or something, because the average customer was easily ordering 6 to 10 drinks.

The solution don’t clock out til it hits 6 hours so you get paid for your lunch some SM’s deserve to be fired or reprimanded. Also talk to your DM they usually have Baristas interests in mind

i’ve done it before and my sm goes into teamwork’s and edits my punches. “adjusted to time actually worked”. needless to say i’m transferring stores next week.

You can dispute all punches, then print and show to your DM as well as call PCC.
Kaywin3 points3y ago
That’s illegal AF. I’d file a complaint with the Labor Bureau if escalating to your DM doesn’t work. You might even be able to get back pay for all the times they fucked you over.
In my area at least, I’m pretty sure if you work over 5-6 hours without a meal you get paid an extra hour on top of time worked as a penalty.

I heard that some awful SMs will go in and edit people's punches to make it seem like they did get their lunch but forgot to punch in and out to cover their butts if baristas end up staying long enough to legally require a lunch.
Scichael_Mary_Gott7 points3y ago
Ok good but that’s also illegal they can’t change the punches unless you were out of the back room and in lobby leaving or in line ordering food or a drink. If you have your apron on you are still technically working if you have not clocked out yet

Ok, I've had a lot of debates about this at my store, and still get told that lunches are if you get OVER 6 hours. It shows as getting a lunch break at 6 hours on the schedule, but I get told that's just the way it does it for people who clock in a minute early/leave a minute late, and is not actually required to give me one on a 6 hour shift (they enforce clocking times strictly on 6 hour shifts).
I'm also told I can "choose" to not take 30s on longer shifts and get paid for the time instead (I made it clear I choose to take 30s, and am always given them reasonably now.)
Is this possibly true where I live? (GA, USA) Or is this misinformation that's just been passed as fact from one person to the next until everyone believes it?

i’m in utah and they are really strict about their labor laws, especially for minors. you’re required to take your breaks. some shifts have been skipping their 30s because of exigent circumstances and they have been getting reprimanded for it.
