Today was my first day on drive by myself (rant)(self.starbucksbaristas)

There are two separate drive thru positions for a reason. One person handles taking orders and one person tenders while making connections. My whole shift was just a constant stream of rude people that had no patience and couldn’t grasp that I couldn’t hear them over the noise of the blender. I tried so hard to go fast but I also had to grab most of my own food (someone was finally assigned warming the last hour) which was no where near the window. There were also things out of my control like how many drinks bar could make at once and what we had in stock. People also kept paying in cash which means I have to make sure they get the right change and that ALSO takes time. I wasn’t able to make connections with people and I genuinely love doing that! I know our customers love that! And I know that not being able to talk to them didn’t help their attitudes or make the wait worth it! If Starbucks really cared about customer connections they would make sure that there is always one extra person just in case we suddenly gets busier than we can handle.

I was never good at making customer connections in DT, and eventually just stopped trying. So many rude and impatient customers, and, after being insulted/cursed at, I couldn't have cared less about connecting with them. Don't even get me started on being on DT alone...yeah...F that. 🤷♀️

Idk of my customers are nicer in general or if I’m just charismatic (latter would genuinely shock me) but usually if I can ask them about their day and compliment them or something they’re a lot nicer and patient

I seriously didnt even know that paying in cash was still a thing (hello? 1995, is that you?) until I started working at Starbucks. Where do people get cash? Why? I guess maybe they are all people who get tips too? Its so strange to me the amount of people walking around with 100$ bills. WTH?

At my old location there was a lot of crime so we couldn’t accept bills over 20 and my new coworkers looked genuinely confused and concerned. We also couldn’t leave the window unattended for any reason and had a code on the bathroom

As someone who usually always does DT (cause I’m one of nicer people during my sift) I completely feel it sucks cause my manger demands not to drop on customer connections but how can I do that and be fast with orders. It also sucks during closing since my store is near different hospitals so we’re always having nurses and doctors come all night until we finally close. And then my SSV wants me to make my own Frappuccinos sometimes which sucks.

I’m right by a hospital too! Every now and again we get a bunch of mobile orders with 10+ drinks and our stickers only come out one at a time so rip to anyone who orders a drink in the cafe OR drive bc both stations have to deal with 10+ drinks before they even get the sticker

Omg yes and they’re either Frappuccinos or a complicated ass drink that’s very specific

Yes!!!! I would LOVE to meet the medical professional that’s willing to drink a mocha cookie crumble frappe with 17 pumps of mocha and extra everything in the middle of a shift. Couldn’t be me
